- I have had a gastric sleeve.
- Biography:
- I am 52 years old and have been obese my entire adult life and about 2 years ago was diagnosed with DMII. I spent the first year making some lifestyle changes and the A1C still climbed and then in 2013 I've worked seriously at healthy changes hoping to reign in the disease process, I've lost about 30 # over the last year and my BMI has decrease 4% but still my A1C is climbing. I have a strong family history having lost both my parents and 3 of the four grands to complications of DMII. I don't want to go that path if I can avoid it, so here I am seriously considering the Gastric Sleeve. My sister had a RNY several years ago and has been after me to do it but until now I haven't been willing to consider it. I still have a lot of inner 2 year old that wants to "do it my own self" but I am realizing I waited to long for that to be an option. She has a return appointment and I am set to see her surgeon the same day. She has had great difficulty with nutrition issues after the RNY so I don't want that but living 100 miles from the surgeon, the band isn't a practical choice either.

Please pardon my rant!

OK here comes an emotional dump so if you're not interested, feel free to stop reading and I wouldn't blame ya. If you need a laugh, I'm sure my warped sense of humor will show here at some point.
I am supposed to be sleeved Friday. yes that's 3 days from now; I've been waiting for over a month for surgical details, a letter to my employer which happens to be a HUGE bureaucracy where NOTHING happens fast in order to get my leave approved and a cost breakdown of what I have to pay
Divine Appointments

Good morning all. Here's hoping this finds you all well. I work in a military treatment center and on Friday had what I can only describe as a divine encounter. I am set to be sleeved on March 6th in Dallas but living in SW Oklahoma so I'm looking for connections online and locally where I can. I had a military wife come in who had a sleeve 4 years ago in Alaska and then was transferred to Oklahoma where she left her treatment and support teams behind and was struggling to find her way here
Hoping for a surgery date following my endoscopy on Friday

I'm sitting here at work trying to reign in the thoughts bouncing around my head as the reality of this surgery sets in. I am scheduled for an endoscopy in two days to make sure everything is good to go for surgery and expect to set a date for the Sleeve after that procedure is completed. I also have chemical stress test three days after that, that I'm NOT looking forward to and keep telling myself I WANT this, am actually PAYING to have it done lol. I've been blessed with extraordinary health

Why is it I see choosing WLS as the most courageous choice YOU can make to regain your health but see facing that same crossroads myself as a result of my own weakness and failures. About time to face down another voice in my head; but first here's a little background so you hopeful understand where I'm coming from!
I've been such an addict! For at least 30 years I've been telling myself "I can lose weight, whenever, I don't need any help"What a bunch of bunk!
