Hey Viv - I had my surgery done in Hastings - my surgeon Dr Fleishl is a lot cheaper than the main centres. He told me that when I first went to see him. His cost $18-$20k (depending on how big you are to start - it's the number of staples they use). He was fantastic and really lovely. To be honest his fees were only $5k - it was the hospital that was the killer $11k for two days (and i didn't eat) - bloody expensive ice chips. Let me know if you need any further info. Cheers Jill

Hey Viv - Thanks for your message. I would be interested re protein options via Amazon. I get the whey protein isolate online from Venom protein which is 35g of protein per scoop. I try to take 2 scoops in the morning so I get 70g of protein and then make up the rest from my food. I think it's because I find the flavoured powder too sweet and the non flavoured really yuk. Seems to be a common problem after surgery. I am probably going to have to just suck it up literally, I have just been naughty lately. When are you scheduled for your surgery? Jill
  4. Hey Viv. Everythings going pretty well. St Georges hospital was terrific and so was my surgeon Richard. I felt like I was in the best hands possible. Your times creeping up too

Hi All

It has been 12 months since I had the surgery so here's my reflection on that time.

I was ready for the surgery, mentally at least. One of the lucky ones with minimal problems. Just the usual issues of learning what and how much food my body can cope with.

Life is different, I'm aware of what and how much I can eat so my eating out experiences have changed. I now order more of what I feel like and don't worry about how much of it I eat. Even

The exercise challenge

by pattersonviv on 09-17-2015 at 02:27 PM
Hi all
We are coming into spring over here. Lots of daffodils and lambs in the fields, my favourite time of year. I've been really struggling with getting into exercise as my working days are full and creating the time has not been a priority.
As part of our program we get personal trainer, dietician etc. I've been using the personal training visits but need to ensure I have linked into all services. Anyway after talking to the PT I decided to set goals not have an exercise

8 months out and counting

by pattersonviv on 08-18-2015 at 05:44 AM
Hi all

I hope you are all going well on the journey. I've settled in to sleeved life and I am feeling comfortable with it. Had lots of work dinners out and have managed to order smaller sizes and most people don't even notice. I have decided since the drink driving laws have changed here not to drink and drive . It does mean that the I find as people drink that the conversation is not actually that funny but after initially people thinking I'm strange they now take advantage of

Those fat people

by pattersonviv on 04-28-2015 at 04:49 AM
Hi All

I didn't realise It has been so long since I posted. Weight loss has slowed down but the scales are still dropping so it is all good.
I don't like to think of myself as a gastric sleeve patient but someone who has had a gastric sleeve but has now recovered - just don't like labels.

Anyway I've been working in a factory and some of the workers are heavy like we all used to be. Others are talking about these people saying that are just fat. If they were

Better week, broke 90 kilos

by pattersonviv on 02-22-2015 at 03:57 AM
Hi All

Had a much better week. I've been for my checks ups at the weight loss clinic and the nurse and dietitian say I'm right on target. Losing steadily each week. I need to commit to my exercise programme. I could give lots of excises and really good ones but the bottom line is it is time for me to get into exercise. I'm concerned about losing muscle mass and I'm still low on energy and I know that exercise is the solution.

Apart from that, spent the weekend
