Hi I'm sorry to read you've had a tough time but it gets better hang in there....good luck on your journey!
  2. Just a quick note: I had to go to the emergency room on Memorial day. My side hurt more than I can ever tell you. They did a cat scan, xrays, iv, pain meds, etc. Looking for a leak......nothing and the liquid Narco, did not touch my pain. I thought the gas pains were bad, intensify that 100 times and that is the pain I had. I have never been so sick with pain...... Turned out that I got a lesson from my male nurse. I was doing too much, driving to the grocery store the first week and lugging up groceries, etc. Atleast I know what it is now. I thought I was going to die, for real. I have to take it easy, no stairs, (I live up stairs). No driving, no twisting, or turning abruptly. I messed myself up so bad. I was really scared too.... I am asking all of you who go to get the sleeve, to not push yourself, make sure you have someone to help you. Please do not push....... The nurse told me 'you had 2 major surgeries', hernia repair and the sleeve....... you have got to stop...... and I have. My last bottle of liquid Narco cost $100.00. I am using it spairingly. Please listen to me, I would not wish that pain on my worst enemy...
  3. Well, I did it.. last Thursday, petrified as usual........ All I can say is the worst part of this surgery is the gas pains. You would think they could find something to let it of of your system. I have had 9 sugeries and this one with the gas pains has been the worst. I have Fibomyalgia, so I am sure that is the reason I hurt all over. But, I will reserve judgement until I am about 3 months out if I really happy I had the sugery. I remember moaning after surgery in the recovery room. I was so blessed to have 3 wonderful nurses and they were on the ball. I tried to stay another day, since I am single, live upstairs and have 45lb Austrailian/Red Heeler dog who is sometimes hard to handle. They left a pain pump in my stomach. Since I have not had a shower in 5 days I was feeling nasty. I called the doctors office and they said to go ahead and take a shower. So that is my next move. I can't let the pain get ahead of me, so I take my liquid pain medication before it is due. The inside of my stomach hurts lik hell. If I drop something I just leave it. I feel a little better ever day. I have NO desire for food.. I got some Miralax for the lower bowel and I hope it works today. I want to thank al of the people who have given me help and inspiration. One day at a time is my motto and I have no idea how my dog is going to poop, maybe on my patio!! At this point, I could really are less......I pray I heal faster than my other surgeries,
  4. I am in BIG trouble. I was supposed to start my liquid diet last Thurs. I had my 7 and 8 year old grandson's this weekend and I got them pizza. So you can guess what happened. Yep, I ate pizza on Sat and Sunday.
I made the confession to the doctors admin this morning. She told me, for the rest of the week, no food nd no sugar. I could not resist it. I felt like it was my last food forever. She is worried that I am not totally on board with this surgery and I will admit, I am getting more fearful each day and surgery is Thurs. AM. what is a grandma to do? Maybe I should back out, I don't know what in the hell to do.......

  7. Finally got a surgery date... May 15th...... Start a liquid diet May 5......... Scared and happy at the same time..........Hope I can pull this one off.......You guys have really helped me.........Remember I am 65 and a grand mother.........I do not want to die ......... HAHA

I had a different nutritionist her name was Stephanie and she was great. In the beginning I was loosing weight very slowly, but then it seemed to pick up. So honestly patience is important everyone looses differently, but I'm sure you'll do great.

I had everything done thru Baylor and was really happy with everything. I wouldn't say it's goodbye sweet food yet...lol....and believe it or not 75 lbs might seem like a lot but it might not. I know personally I have lost 90 lbs so far and I still want to loose some more. I feel like a completely different person and so far I'm happy with the results. This does take work and will power your going to have to make some choices. The weirdest thing about this surgery is that your taste buds will change so be prepared for that. When I loose 21 more pounds I will be in the 100's weight wise and I'm really excited. I've never been this thin and it's a good feeling. I don't regret my surgery at all and if I would have decided to do this earlier I should have. Contact me whenever you like. Good luck with your journey.
  10. Thank you all for your words of kindness and inspiration. I have one more appt and then they will send my paperwork to medicare......... I just pray I have enough time to recover and move at the end of August......Again, thanks for the words of encouragement......... you guys ROCK !

I really think Dr. Kennedy is the best I really like her. After meeting her I knew I could go ahead with this surgery and feel I was in good hands. Her staff is great and will do whatever they can to help you. Sorry for the late response I hope this helps and if you have any questions at all feel free to ask. This will be my 7 month post op and I am doing great.

    Thanks for the compliment doll!
  14. Did any of you have doubts about having this surgery when time was coming around to being finished with all of the tests etc? I wonder if it is me, or have others had this feeling. Since my dietician has had me on this "get off of sugar" or Crack as I call it, I have lost weight. I have cheated a couple of times, but to take someone 65 years old off of sugar is really a scary thing. I am wondering if I can keep following his diet and not have to have surgery. I have had 9 surgeries in the past 15 years and I am worn out from surgery. Do you think I can not have the surgery and make it or not? The thought of going under anesthesia and my hair falling out, etc. is a little daunting......... thanks for all of you, you are like a family to me since my mother, father and brother are all gone...... I really appreciate all of you so much. Patty A.

Trying Not to Compare myself to others !!

by pattycake65 on 03-02-2014 at 08:29 AM
I have not had surgery yet, but I am going to try and not compare my weight loss to others, and I say TRY very lightly. I have other complications that will work against me after my surgery. I have low thyroid, Fibromyalgia and some other long term illnesses. With these complications, and that I am 65 yrs old and healing is much slower at my age. You guys Rock and I so appreciate all of you posts and they are so positive. I am having a little trepidation. My nutritionist has worked for 2 months
