  1. Checking in after a long time. Finally broke the 200 mark and am down to 196.8. Have not seen that number for a few years. Winter is finally over here in the northeast and am looking forward to getting out and moving. Unfortunately, I have just caught my first cold and it is kicking my butt. So happy I did this for me. 2015 is going to be the year of changes for me for sure. Good luck everyone too! I have found that a stall will happen, but, eventually the scale does move again. Take advantage of those stalls to reevaluate what you are putting into your body and what type of exercise to add to your day. Have a happy day all!
  2. OK. Finally have my surgery date of February 4th. I guess I won't believe this is going to happen until they are actually wheeling me into surgery. This will be the third time I was scheduled. Any advice for me before surgery that you wish you had known before you did??
  3. Sorry, forgot to update my surgery date. Due to ulcer in my esophagus it had to be postponed. I am meeting with my surgeon on Thursday this week to reschedule. Had a follow up endoscopy last week and was told the ulcer is healed. Probably looking for a date of February now. I won't believe it is going to happen until they actually are wheeling me into surgery!

Best wishes! Don't forget to grab as many of those little 1 oz cups you'll get when they bring ice and water, great for home use! You're going to rock this!

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. God Bless
  6. I am back. After this summer unsuccesfully dieting, I have begun a new program with a different surgeon in Concord, MA. My bmi is now 40.3 and not 39.8. The great thing about this program is that they know my previous issue with LGH and not getting approved that they are trying to get my surgery scheduled in January. My final appt with the surgeon is on Dec 11th and they will then submit to my insurance. Not sure I could take another rejection, but, I have to try. I will not go down without a fight.
  7. Well, I just got my final denial letter from my insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA. This makes my third and final denial and frankly I cannot do this any more at this time. This whole process has taken up the last 6 months of my life and not to mention hundreds of my own dollars in fees and copayments. I am going to take the summer off and we'll see what happens in the fall. Thanks for those who supported me these last few months. Good luck with your weight loss.
  8. Has anyone ever had to file for an external appeal through their insurance for approval for gastric sleeve surgery? I have been denied two times now and my last chance for surgery is if I send an appeal to Blue Cross of MA for an external appeal. What did your letter include?

Aww that stinks! I hate insurance companies! Well I will pray hard that you finally get some good news. Have you ever thought of Mexico if it dosent happen? I'll keep my fingers x'd!

Hi Kathy, yes we are close aren't we? How is your progress going?

I think the surgeon can also file some sort of appeal on your behalf stating medical necessity.. So try that route first and hopefully BCBS will get their act together! If not-and you have to gain in order to qualify, than I would do it too.. It's awful to think you have to gain weight to get coverage but you are so close to a 40 that at least it should be a fairly small amt. Whatever you have to do- it will work out and you WILL get there.. Keep me updated on how you are doing with everything!

Hi Kathy- I was just checking in to see if you had a surgery date this month, but see below that BCBS denied you?!! Ugh. so sorry. I actually was telling someone today that that Dr. at Lahey told me that even though the BCBS paperwork said you could be a BMI of 35-40 with a co-morbidity, they DO deny MOST people who are not a BMI of 40. I couldn't believe it! I was a 39.6 so the Dr. boost me to a 40 to make sure I got approved. The Dr. told me BCBS is awful.. Insurance is awful- period! Stay positive.. it will all work out!
  13. I put in a grievance with my insurance carrier, BC/BS of massachusetts as to my denial for the sleeve. Keeping fingers crossed. The other alternative is that I gain back the 10lbs plus two more to make it to their BMI of 40. Wont be too hard to do. I will just go back to my old habits and wear heavier shoes this time on the scale!!! Targeting a surgery date hopefully of either end of April or Mid-May. Maybe this will turn out to be my Mother's Day present to me. Staying positive and happy.

Hi Kathy.....sorry it took so long to respond, I haven't been here for a while. My experience has been the best decision I have ever made for myself. I wish I had done it years ago. I have so much more energy. I have dropped my blood pressure pills and cholesterol pills. My self esteem has soared through the roof. I FINALLY have an inner happiness and peace with myself. In my case, I adjusted well to my stomach. Yes, it is trial and error. I have spent episodes with my toilet lol. But you learn. Im not going to rosey coat it though. I am now 16 months out and some of my old bad habits have reared its ugly head. Emotional eating is my downfall. But, with my tiny stomach I cant do what I used to. One thing that I live by is that the gym has become a part of my life even though I hate it lol. I got down to 153, and during Christmas holiday I went back up to 159. I am now see sawing between 155 and 159. I am happy with that. I see you had hoped to have your surgery by the end of March......hope you got it scheduled. I was nervous about the procedure too....but I had an unbelievable calm when I got to the hospital......It was the first day of my new life . Thanks for the kind words and I wish you all the best and success with your surgery. Let me know how your doing!
    Have a great day!!
    Deb
  15. Just received word that I am "DENIED" I guess I do not meet the BC/BS statistics to have this operation. I have a BMI of 40 and high blood pressure. I am only 5"2 and weighed 220 at the start. I just spent the last three months totally consumed about attending my classes, going to nutritionist, losing my 5% and now this Bull. I am at work right now and feel like having a good cry but cant. They tell me to appeal and a decision will be made in 30 days. If they wanted me to have the surgery in the first place I would not have been denied. Is appealing this a waste of time? I was angry at the center for weight management that took me in. Why did they accept me into the program if I do not qualify?

Psych evaluation today

by Chatty Kathy on 01-02-2014 at 09:49 PM
1/2/2014-I went for my psych evaluation today. Was a little disappointed as I was interviewed by their college intern. But, he turned out ok. They told me that my BMI is 39.7. I was right on the line for the surgery. I explained to him that I am 100lbs heavier than I was when I got married and have trouble due to a slow metabolism losing weight. He believes I should have no trouble getting approved. Tomorrow I am calling my insurance again to confirm how much I will owe for my surgery for
