How have you been doing? Thought I would say hello

Hey, how are you feeling, how's it going? My surgery is 4 days away, and am excited about a new beginning. Hope all is going well for you and hope to see you on the other side
  3. Get a water bottle cage, at least one. Splurge a bit and get an insulated water bottle or just use a Gatorade bottle. They fit in those cages perfectly. Get a little seat bag for about $10 so you can stash your phone, keys, and other things when you're riding.

Start slowly! No more than maybe 3-4 miles to start. You want to enjoy the ride, not torture yourself. You can build yourself slowly and pretty soon, you'll be on some $10K bike that's all titanium and carbon fiber. ;-)

Enjoy! Feel free to ask anything, anytime.
  4. Portland is the bicycle capital of the US! Some of the best cyclists, bike shops, and bike builders are in Portland! You are in what cyclists consider to be the Cycling Mecca.

For starters, I would start with a "hybrid" or "comfort" bicycle. These are very comfortable and won't really bust your budget. I don't know what your budget is but for beginners, I would spend between $350 & $450 for a bike. You really don't want to go to WalMart and buy an inexpensive bicycle. You will really regret it. Well, your butt will....

I am partial to Marin and Felt Bicycles but there are plenty of good bikes out there. You just need to look and see what suits your style and taste.

There's a store called Bike N Hike that sells a hybrid Giant Cypress. You may be able to bargain with them and get it for $350. Here is a link: Giant Cypress - Bike N Hike Professional Bicycle Sales & Service|Portland, Oregon

Don't let them sell you a road bike until you're ready to go to that. A mountain bike will be too harsh. Just a nice comfort/hybrid bike. It should have at least 21 speeds. And test the seat. Most standard seats are not comfortable at all. If you like the seat that's on the bike, then go ahead and try it. You'll want to wear the silly padded shorts. Thank me later! If you do get a new seat, Serfas or WTB makes good seats. I can put my big ol' butt on them and ride for days.

I am on full liquids until Wednesday. My surgeon seems very strict and each stage seems to have restictions in the amount we can't go over. For example, I can't have more than.1/4 cup of yorgort per serving. Good luck with your return to work.

you will have to tell me about the program. How often do you have to go in to the clinic? I didn't know about seeing Dr.P at one year either, but the last appointment I had with her, post-op she wanted me to see me at one year.
Thank you, It has been one year since I started at OWLS, but I did not have my procedure until Oct. So had lost around 70 pounds before I was sleeved. My appointment went well. I need to build more muscle. I lost quite a bit of muscle over the last three months. He basically told me to slow down on the cardio and work on strength training. ( Which is not my cup of tea.) Oh well. I did do the lower body for 30 minutes like he wants me to do, and tomorrow will be my upper body. So all went well. I have an appointment with Dulcie in a month or so. So we will go over my food list.
How are things with you? You will be able to do puree foods soon. My first "meal" was half a scrambled egg, and some pureed artificial crab meat.
I remember how good it felt to actually have something close to solid food. I am glad you are feeling well. It gets easier everyday.

That is great! You will get there. I remember being completely tired for the first two months. I wanted a nap every afternoon! So whenever I was luckily enough to sneak one in, I did. I am glad you're feeling good.It makes it a lot easier. I am doing really good. I go in tomorrow for a check up with Dr.R. I am curious to see what he has to say. I had my procedure in Oct, but my 1st appointment there was may 31st. I have six more pounds to lose by the 31st and then I can say I lost 150 pounds in a year. I am so happy about that! I can not believe it at all. That's my exciting news. I can not wait to have my one year appointment with Dr.P. She has not seen me lately. I am so grateful for having this procedure, it has changed my life. I am excited to hear about all your milestones yet to come.

How are feeling today? You've made it through your first week. I hope you're getting up and around OK.

Hello. I am being a little lazy but doing little exercises that will hopefully tighten things up and form muscle. I hope to get out to the gym today to get on treadmill and elipticle a little. I promise to tale it easy. Regarding your experience with tge curry spice....I guess we will keep learning the hard way. Atleast it was only gas and not pain or other complications. I love spicey food but I plan on staying clear of it as long as I can.
  13. Sounds like you are making great progress!!!!!! Walk, Walk, Walk!!!

I am on clear liquids and not sure that the doc is worried about.me getting a lot of protien down this week. Next week when my diet advances, I will be adding protien shakes. I did buy some protien drinks but I only took a few sips of them. I may try to drink more today. Overall I am feeling better. I am still a little sore in the spot where they pulled the discarded stomach out. This morning my stomach is just making lots of sounds. It is grawling, rumbling, gurgling, and making various sounds.

Five Reasons Why......

by Graciegurl on 06-10-2014 at 08:30 PM
I am grateful for my sleeve because:

I am learning portion control
I am enjoying ever bite I take
I am eating quality instead of quantity
I am no longer fixated on what I want to eat next
I am paying attention to the signals my stomach sends to my brain that say; Caution, reaching capacity!

Yes, I am grateful! If you are wondering if WLS is for you???? All you have to do is to read all the wonderful blogs from those of us who have had

Sugar, Can I Ever Eat Sweets Again?

by Graciegurl on 06-02-2014 at 09:58 PM
I have read a lot of posts regarding sweets... To eat or not to eat sweets tis the question. Well, for me the answer is simple. I love sweets, always have and always will. However, with that being said one thing I do know is that I am sugar intolerant and have built up a resistance to sugar aw well.

When ever I would go on a high protein, low carb diet ( there's that 4 letter word again ) detox from sugar and highly processed foods I would feel so much better. I would have more

Omg..... People.... Throw the dayum scales away and stop bitching!

by Graciegurl on 05-26-2014 at 08:35 PM
UUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHH, First, if you are one of these people that are going to be offended by my title you probably do not want to read my rant!

Really people?????? How long did it take for you to get to the place where you felt the only option left was to have some type of WLS?????? Like me, perhaps, it took years... Years of yo-yo dieting, trying the latest sure thing diets, soup diets, liquid diets etc.. Get my drift? Did this work? Perhaps for a short time but eventually after

I dont understand why people hide the fact that they have had wls

by Graciegurl on 05-04-2014 at 12:59 PM
I have read a lot of posts from people who do not share with friends, family, co-workers or even their primary health provider the fact that they have had some type of wls. I just don't get it! People see that you have lost weight and are eating differently so why not share the reason?

I know this is a personal adventure. I know that many people feelif others knew that they had wls they copped out or weren't strong enough to *diet* or took the *easy* way out.. blah blah blah.......

Food, Dieting and Scales

by Graciegurl on 05-02-2014 at 07:50 PM
I am sure many if not all of you can relate to the vicious cycle of food, dieting and the most vicious of vicious the cursed scale! And depending on what the number was on the scale, the scale set the tone of the day.

Okay, so knowing that in the past (I was sleeved 4/28/14) my day and my mental mind set was driven not only by what the scale reading was but by my addiction to food as well. And then add on the fact that I love food, ate food for no reason and ate food as an ally
