    Hi, I am in Fayetteville, NC and had my surgery with Dr. Classen at Village Surgical Associates. There are only 2 doctors in Fayetteville that do bariatric surgeries and they are both with Village Surgical Associates. I have the BCBS State Health Plan and they were very easy to work with. At the time of surgery, they did not require any supervised diet. They changed that in September and now require a 6 month diet before surgery. Since I did not have to do the diet, it was a very fast process for me. I went to a seminar held by Dr. Classen and Dr. Davidson on June 15. They hold a info seminar once a month. They require you go to it before they will schedule and appointment. My appt with Dr. Classen was made for June 24. I had to bring 2 years of weight history (required by my ins, some require 5.) Once I saw him I had to see the dietician and she accepts only cash $200. Then I had to see psych which was covered by ins and I paid copay $30. Then I was cleared for surgery by my insurance and was operated on July 30. So it only took me about a month and a half to complete the process. Hope this info helps!
  6. hi all, i have been enjoying your company now for about a week and i think its time to introduce my self.
    my name is salma and i am planning on having the gastric sleeve i weigh 258 lbs as of last week and that is the highest weight i ever been and everything hurts, i am going through the appointment now and still have no certin date or approval from insurance i have been getting a lot of good information and experiance i was so scared of the idea of being sick or throwing up all the time after surgery, but it looks like not a lot of people have those issues the mail reason for me having the surgery is to get healthy and be able to have a baby and looks dont hurt either. i only started gainig all this weight 6 years ago before i was active and fit and never over weight after a while of gaining weight i found out i have a slow thyriod and PCOS and even it kind of under control now but all the bad habits and the high carb craving makes it so hard to lose weight and i am hoping the sleeve will be my answer.

6 month diet mandatory by insurance !!!

by salma2013 on 01-15-2015 at 02:29 PM
Dear sleevers;

i have been doing great ! but this post is not about me.
a dear friend of mine just started her journey and since i was fortunate enough not to have to go thru this i am unable to advise her. she has to go for 6 month mandatory diet supervised by a nutritionist

1- how much weight should be expected to lose, and not lose her chance fro insurance approving the surgery
2- i know if her BMI goes less than 40 she will be rejected, is this correct?
