Dr. dirk only requires a pre surgery diet if your BMI is over a certain percent. I don't remember what that number was but I did not have to do it. He is a very skilled surgeon and that was a big reason I wanted him. His office staff is great and they will answer any questions you have at any time. I called several times before I decided.

Hi, I am completely happy with dr. Stowers! I like his technique and his office is great all around. My favorite things are I didn't have a drain tube, only stayed one night in the hospital and I didn't have staples on my incisions, I came home with glue and my scars look good considering they're scars lol. He's great!
  4. Thanks so much for your input! I met Dr. Stowers on Monday and he and his staff were very nice. I just wanted to make sure he was also an excellent surgeon. Undergoing this surgery is a bit anxiety producing so I want to make sure I'm doing my research. I've seen quite a few people have used Dr. Stowers and I haven't found anyone that wasn't pleased. Thanks again and I hope you are seeing great results!!

    Hi,
I am really pleased with the surgery and the efficiency of the staff at Dr. Stowers office. They will answer pretty much any question you have, even the little ones that seem bothersome. I haven't really had any problems other than getting nauseated every now and then. I think part of that is just my body changing. The surgery is life changing, but it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps. If you need anything more just let me know.

  6. I've been told the same thing about the hernia. I'm supposed to go in the day before the sleeve procedure and get a scope. I appreciate your information very much. I have heard the same thing about the heartburn and gas post-surgery. That sounds really miserable. Like you, I really don't have any symptoms of a hernia that were worth noting. I'm going to have to consider whether the hernia repair is something I should avoid and just pay for the entire surgery. I'm very glad you had such a good experience with Dr. Stower and that you're feeling well. I hope your weight loss is very successful! Thanks again for all your help!!

    Hello,

I liked him a lot. The staff at My Bariatric Solutions are very knowledgeable and made me feel at ease. I had no complications with my surgery at all and am healing very well. The only issue I had (and this really could just be me) is the hiatal hernia repair. From what I could tell Dr. Stowers is under the impression that all overweight people have this hernia and should have it repaired at the same time as the sleeve procedure. If you're paying out of pocket this will save you around $3000. That is great and much appreciated but the symptoms of the hernia are heart burn and gas issues. I had NO symptoms prior to surgery but was told I had the hernia. It was repaired and again no significant complications but I've had more discomfort with gas and heart burn since the surgery than ever before. I was highly dependent on gas x strips for the first 2 weeks after my procedure and am still scared to stop taking the prilosec (which you're supposed to be on for 3 months after surgery anyway). So anyway, if you have no heart burn and gas problems I would try to skip the hernia repair.....otherwise....everything was great.

Hope that helps and I didn't get too off track.
  8. Houston. I drove up yesterday for my initial consult and expect to hear from the scheduling person in probably a week they said. Do you live in the Decatur area? I'm so glad that you had a good experience with him! I liked him but I wanted to make sure I wasn't deciding based on bedside manner alone. This is all sort of nerve-wracking.

Know of a good surgeon in Houston for a cash patient?

by TXgrandma on 10-20-2013 at 12:11 AM
I thought I had decided on a surgeon about 5 hours from my home but my husband wants me to explore the possibility of having the sleeve surgery in Houston where we live. I don't have insurance coverage so I will be a self-pay patient. Can anyone recommend a great surgeon? I liked the one up near Fort Worth but I must agree that follow-ups and any complications would be better addressed in town. Any thoughts? Thanks everyone!
