  1. Hello Erik,
Sorry I did not respond sooner., I havent logged on for bit. I eat very low carbs if any, alot of protein and no sweets..no sugar or very little.
Typically for breakfast I will have some eggs and maybe sausage link or bacon...I eat a snack like a atkins protein bar about 3 hours later...I also eat as a snack some sugar free pudding. Lunch is usually ham/cheese or maybe a chicken salad/ or tuna or something of that sort..I avoid bread all together but from time to time may eat one piece with the ham/cheese. If I have a hamburger i will maybe eat two bites of the bun and only eat the meat and lettuce/tomatoe etc.. Dinner is the same ..avoid the carbs. It isnt as hard as I thought it would be...I even eat Pizza, but mostly just the toppings..maybe a bite or two of crust...also like hot wings. Another snack I have is celery with peanut butter.. I mostly drink coffee, tea (unsweet), water, diet snapple...i stay away from any sodas ( i used to be a diet coke/pepsi addict lol). The only thing I am struggling with is avoiding caffeine..I think I drink too much. Anyways..my weight has been stagnent the last month or so I think Ive only lost maybe 5 -6 lbs. I need to exercise more, but it is hard to find time..I work like 60 hours a week. Well hope this helps you a little...sorry for rambling on and on..but Im pressed for time. Good luck.

Hey Erik, didn't see this till now. Typical day for me.

    Breakfast: 2 eggs, fried.
Lunch: Usually leftovers from dinner. If there isn't any, I will eat a spinach salad with lots of veggies. Carrots, green onions, apple, celery and radishes. I always use blue cheese dressing and perhaps a sprinkle of walnuts.
Dinner: My protein source is meat, I find that beef, pork or chicken satiate me the best. I enjoy fish but find I have to eat more of it to feel full. For vegetables it will be one of zucchini, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli or greens. I rarely have a starch dish but if I do I prefer a pureed squash or a sweet potato.

I do not count calories, I do not measure my portions. I try to eat slowly, especially after I have finished half my plate. I use a small plate and no fluids before or during the meal and I wait until 1 hour afterwards before drinking.

I rarely snack, but when I do it is fruit or roasted soybeans for a nice crunch element. I'm sure you have noticed that I really stay away from the carbs. I have found that when I eat them I really suffer hunger pains.

Exercise: I do strength training 4 times a week alternating between upper and lower body. During the summer and fall I got my cardio from walks and working on the house. Now that winter has set in I'm searching for a method to get my cardio.

I hope that helps, good luck on your journey.

Hi Erik! I read your story about the hand transplant and was just shocked by it. What an incredible wonderful thing. I did not even know this was possible. So glad you shared this. Sorry if I am being creepy stalker-ish. I saw you linked to the site on someone else's profile and I read about you there. Hope you are doing well!

Didnt really have a set diet but try to eat healthy. I made sure to get in 80grams of protein a day. Never had a "stall" the whole way through. My first pic is actually from a few years ago when my weight was closer to 400 pounds. I run every other day 5-7miles(which I started 3months ago). Do my stairmaster other days. Just started to lift weights. I think I have had an easier time than others. Never felt that I was working hard at this. But, I have struggled with my weight off and on since I was young. I know that I am in the "honeymoon period" right now. I keep on telling myself "lifestyle". I wish you good luck on your weight loss as well.

Hello Erik. To be honest, i don't exercise to much yet. I walk some with my wife and do some stairs. My diet just consist of mostly tuna and chicken. But I just eat just a little of whatever everyone else is eating.

I see. Maybe on the lifting you can do a lot of pushing movements or lighter weight with many reps......

    Thanks for the question, Erik

    Here goes, hope it helps:

I have a loving family and friends.

I use a "JawBone UP" wrist band and software on an iPhone and don't exceed 1,300 calories/day.

We have peer group meetings at hospital.

I have been in a "GlucoFit Club" at my YMCA since 7/2011 and go there each day (when I'm in town) either for GlucoFit, Body Pump class, or a TotalFit class. None of this is for "wimps." I step up activity during the weekend with Pacific Ocean sailing, sometimes hiking, and S...X, which burns calories, too!

I take my food with me; otherwise I eat Garden Burgers (no bun), cottage cheese and veggies. We are talking small amounts; maybe 5 X/day.

    I measure and/or weigh everything.

I use protein drinks from Bariatric Advantage, or often stuff from the HMR diet program. I use high protein bars from Bariatric Advantage or ThinkThin. I also use the recipes available from a site I found here in the forum:

theworldaccordingtoeggface: A day in my pouch

I don't use salads or bread stuffs.

I eat/drink VERY SLOWLY and STOP when I feel full.

Thus, with all this, I feel great, good blood work, and I have dropped 94 lbs in about over 4-months.

Being well and looking well takes a lot of work, so look for ways to make it all fun THAT ARE NOT FOOD-ORIENTED!

Erik...I don't know what to say. That's impressive that they can even do such a thing, but I'm sorry you don't have full use of your hand. If you don't mind me asking, what can you do with your hand? Can you grip or lift things? I'd be happy to try to come up with some ideas for you to still be able to lift. Has your Dr given you any restrictions?

Hi Erik....sure....I usually have a Muscle Milk protein shake in the morning for breakfast. I'm retired and play golf 5 days a week and I usually make a chicken caesar wrap to eat between 9's and I'll also bring a cup of yogurt. For dinner I'll have either Chicken or Fish but I can only eat 5 or 6 bites before I'm full. I walked 3-4 miles 3 or 4 times a week until recently and now I'm combining a mile or two running and walking the rest. Just starting to get back to lifting, but golf takes up a lot of my time. The only bad things I eat are taco chips or mustard pretzels, but not enough to do damage. I can drink a couple scotch rocks with the mood strikes me as well Glad to answer any questions.....best decision I've made!!!

Hate to hear that about the injury! Hope you get better quickly and don't rush it too soon and set yourself further back. That is an impressive loss. You probably know already that rapid weight loss will hit your strength/muscle a good bit and you'll get a little weak, but try not to let it get you down too much. It will come back and if you've lifted in the recent past, that muscle memory will get you back a little sooner than someone who has not lifted in a while or ever.

Sure, no problem. May be quite a bit for one message on here, but here's the simple version. Exercise....I lift weights 5-6 times a week and do cardio 1-2 times a week. Lifts are basic compound lifts usually to failure. Cardio is uphill walking, biking or sprinting and my cardio never lasts more than 30 minutes...sometimes just 15-20 minutes if I'm doing sprints.

Diet.....I get around 100-120 grams of protein a day. I low carb on days I don't lift (1-2 days a week) and I eat plenty of complex carbs on days I do lift, especially my first meal after lifting. I TRY to stay away from simple carbs (white anything..... like bread or sugar) and very little fruit. The complex carbs I eat are usually quinoa, sweet potatoes, occasional brown/long grain rice and lots of broccoli and green beans. I eat these complex carbs with a lean meat.

Keep in mind that people often have varying sensitivities to carbs, so that's pretty much trial and error for each person. That's pretty much the simple explanation, but I would be glad to give you more details if you have any specific questions.

I had my band removed 10/2012. I only lost 40 lbs. in two years and I was continuously having problems. It was either too full or not enough. I am really looking forward to getting the sleeve! They changed my date from July 15th to the 16th but that's fine. Wishing you the best.
    Blessings.......
