  1. checking in on this group after many years! What a journey....today is 3/5/18....I had to have a RNY on 3/17/17 because I developed another hiatal hernia. I was throwning up almost daily. Had endoscopy and found that I had Barrotts Esophagus and developed masses in my stomach and esophagus. Biopsies showed them to be begign. I was told I needed RNY, gastric bypass. I was in surgery 5 days after seeing my dr. at Walter Reed. I had a second surgery that week because they had noticed my esophagus was eroded and kinked. It will almost be a year....I feel great...I can eat almost anything but have to chew a lot. I have another endoscopy in a year to see if the barrett's has not progressed. I hope this finds you all well and continued success on your journey.
  2. good morning Ms JK...well, today is tuesday. In two days, I will be 3 weeks post op. I feel good. No pain. Incisions slightly tender. Clothes feel looser. My only discouragement is that I weighed 185 one week post op and now I'm still at that same weight. Others have said not to weigh myself since it can be discouraging. It does play a big factor in my head... I go to my support group today and will tell them how discouraged I am,and I'm sure they will stay I am still healing. I don't overeat, I'm barely eating...I am hoping this is just a temporary stall. You will do great. I will be praying for a successful surgery for you! Everyone keeps saying I look great but I personally don't see as much as they do. Maybe cause I see myself in the mirror every day. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi, I noticed on the 35-40 BMI that you posted that you were 194 the day of surgery, how is your post-op going?I will have my surgery on the 27th of June and I weigh 192 as of today, would love to hear about your progress.
  4. Hi Caprice! We are day 5 post op and are only allowed full liquid diet, which means a step above the see through liquids. I am drinking diet snapple, atkins protein shakes and jello. I had cream of mushroom soup last night. I'm afraid to try mashed potatoes. Remember, our staples are fresh...you are healing your stomach on the inside. Don't eat portions that might get stuck in your stomach. I have passed gas but have not had much of a bowel movement. I am not sleeping well at night. I have not left the house since I came home on sunday. Small walks outside but that's about it. Hurts to wear a bra. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time, so maybe that's why I'm a bit more sore. Don't push yourself to eat a lot....it takes time. Do you have a drain? Mine gets taken out on thursday. are you on facebook? go to sassy sleevers and ask to join. It's a private group so no one in your regular friend list sees your posts. Lots of great people on there. Also Drama Free WLS Buddies. If I have a question, I will post and have tons of responses. I rarely use this site anymore....today's question was if I should have the egg drop soup or wonton soup since I'm ordering chinese for my family. They all said NO to the wonton since I have to chew on pieces and it may hurt the inside of my stomach that is still healing. Best wishes!

We were sleeved same day and I'm from NJ but spend a bit of time visiting Annapolis. I can't find anyone from around me on here. How are you postoperative? I'm feeling great with small issues like remembering to drink all the water in between meals which then leaves me a bit lightheaded but I'm catching on!

I've even tried mashed potatoes , yogurt, but really like my shakes w different flavorings. Been out to lunch w friends twice and ordered a cup of soup and only eat 1/2 of the broth. Strang don't to drink when you eat though....

Let me know how you're progressing as well. Life changing event and soooo happy it's done.

  9. @Miss Jay, I ordered the Unjury Protein powder from unjury.com....I ordered the chicken soup and the unflavored protein powder. It will be great to put into my cream of wheat, applesauce, baby food during the puree stage. The unflavored can also be put into sugar free drinks. Day one of liquids and got on the scale to note my starting weight and I'm down 2 lbs! I had a wonderful steak dinner with my hubby last night. Surprised but happy!

  11. so glad you are feeling better ayoung! How big was your hiatal hernia? For me, it was the reason why I'm getting sleeved...I saw a surgeon about repairing it and he told me I was a canidate for bariatric surgery. I'll be curious to see how you feel a month from surgery. We want to go somewhere for our anniversary, but I'm concerned about traveling. Best wishes!!

Hi elliscoastle just wanted to let you know that I am doing fine. Thank you for the well wishes. I see that your surgery day is just around the corner. Just to give you an update. I went in on 3/25 and didn't get to come home until 3/28. My heart rate and white blood cells were way too high and my breathing was too low. They put me on oxygen and did cat scan and everything looked good. My Dr said that I did really well with the sleeve part of my surgery and that it was the hiatal hernia that he had to repair that was causing the problems. He spotted a little fluid underneath it. I will tell you this, when I got home weird as it may sound. I felt about 75% better. Just seeing my family and back in my environment made the difference. My husband and I went walking last night and the fresh air and everything was just what I needed. But whatever you do. Make sure you follow all Dr and nurse advice. It is the one reason that I think I am doing so well right now. I also have been walking every couple of hours sense I've been home and doing my little breathing thing. Can't think of the name of it right now, but it really is helping my breathing and shortness of breath I was experiencing. I will tell you that both of my kids were C-sections and this is what the pain feels like. Each day I'm noticing that everything is getting a little easier as time goes by. Good luck to you and I will be waiting for your surgery day so that we will have more to talk about. Good luck!

I just need to vent...

by elliscoastie on 05-13-2013 at 04:50 PM
Surgery is in 3 days. I'm excited. I'm ready. Took thursday (surgery day) and friday off of this week. Taking monday through friday off of next week. Curious on how long drain will stay in. I've been told I will go home with one.

Venting because I told my boss (who happens to be my sister) I'm taking friday off for this surgery and next week. She asked me about thursday. I said "well, of course, my mistake for not including that day". She freaked out about me taking

Pre-Op Diet

by elliscoastie on 05-06-2013 at 03:59 PM
I started my liquid diet on May 2nd....My second child's bday. He is 23 years old. I was so nervous of the fact that I wouldn't be chewing anything for the next 14 days. I drink 4 protein shakes a day with plenty of water in between. I love the Unjury Chicken Protein powder. It feels good to put something warm in my tummy. I have been drinking decaf lemon zinger tea in the morning and follow my usual routine in the mornings. I have to admit, I have cheated a few times here and there. I enjoyed

Surgery date of May 16th

by elliscoastie on 03-17-2013 at 01:55 PM
I went to Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda to turn in my paperwork. I had to have seen a dietician 3 times, attend a support group for 2 times, a psychologist, an exercise therapist, perform a sleep study, an endoscopy, keep a food log and have lost at least 10 lbs. I have done all that! What I didn't know was I was meeting a different surgeon who will be performing my surgery. I really liked the first and only surgeon from the beginning of my journey. The only reason I began this was

Tomorrow I get to schedule my surgery!

by elliscoastie on 03-13-2013 at 07:27 AM
I am so excited about finally getting a surgery date. Tomorrow I meet with the surgeon and he has to go through my "booklet" of appointments kept and signatures from those who have approved me for surgery.

I am nervous of course as all of you have been. But the excitement is much greater than my fears and worries. I have a supportive family and I know I will be okay.

I will post my date as soon as I get it!

My Journey

by elliscoastie on 03-10-2013 at 06:47 PM
My journey began in December 2012 when I had seen a specialist on why I was throwing up a lot and not able to keep some food down. I had an endoscopy that revealed a hiatal hernia. I talked to the surgeon who recommended I have it repaired at the same time I get bariatric surgery. I know I am overweight, just never considered myself a candidate for this type of surgery. I attended the first meeting to see what was required from me. I needed to attend three support groups, attend four dietician
