  1. Not quite getting this blogging thing - for example, can't seem to find one consistent place to post things. I'm pretty sure THIS isn't it, but...it's what I have, so here goes.
Think I've got the weight-loss thing down: I've lost 21 lbs since Thursday PM (yes, in 4 days).
What I don't seem to have down is getting calories IN: per my surgeon & dietician, I should be consuming 80-100 gr of protein daily now (high-grade protein powders mixed with water), but I absolutely can't stand even the THOUGHT of drinking that.
I'm trying to focus on drinking lots of water, get Jello at least once a day, even found some broth I could eat a couple times. But I think I've had a total of 500 calories (maybe less, MUCH less) in those 4 days. Don't think this is gonna work, long-term. Any suggestions on ways to cope with the awful, HORRIBLE flavors for proteins on a clear-liquid diet? Thanks!!
  2. Hey, everybody. I'm back from the hospital, not 100% yet but doing fine.
My surgery was Tuesday the 9th. Came home last night, still a lot of recovering yet to do, but I'm doing good (had some issues because of my blood pressure, but that's just my issue, nothing to do with surgery or this process).
I'm still a little weak, but I just got outside and walked 1/2 mile - what a BEAUTIFUL day out there! And I was amazed at how much the respiratory therapy they recommend really helped me bounce back quickly.
I have ZERO hunger, despite no solid food / only clear liquids for 6 days - NOTHING at all Tues & Wed, just water on Thurs. Today, I'm getting vitamins & protein finally, but that's just because I know I should do it, not because I desperately want it. But I never knew WATER could taste SO DIVINE!! ;-)
Keep the faith, friends - this is just something we have to go through to get to where we need to be - we WILL get there. It's all good!!

That's a terrific start. Understand the anxiety - there would be something amiss if you didn't have some concern. You will do great - certain of it.

Hi John! Surgery TOMORROW!! So excited for you. Things are well here - I'm a slow loser and I'm ok with that. My doc is REALLY happy with the way I'm progressing, and I'm down about 50 lbs total, which is just awesome. Good luck tomorrow - I'll be praying for you and waiting to hear an update!

My story

by TX Sleeve on 04-17-2013 at 12:19 AM
So, earlier today someone here asked for my story, and after I wrote this for them, I thought others might find it helpful, too, so....

Last October, my primary care doctor called ME to come in for an appointment - THAT was a first (I'm usually calling them & trying to get seen). I'd had my usual quarterly lipid profile a week before, and he wanted to talk to me about it: turns out, I had finally hit the point where they shift somebody from "pre-diabetic" to "diabetic"

Not eating - help?

by TX Sleeve on 04-13-2013 at 11:15 PM
I *know* that I need to eat, but I'm *really* struggling to do it.
Sleeved on Tuesday, home Thursday night. I'm drinking my water (up to 2 liters today), I'm up & walking, doing respiratory therapy, keeping up with all the vitamins and other meds I'm on. But I haven't had 300 calories TOTAL since surgery on the 9th: a couple cups of sugar-free Jello, and about 6 swallows (5 cc) of protein-mixed-with-water, all combined.

What's worse for me is, NOTHING sounds good. I searched

It's getting closer...getting REAL...HERE WE GO!!!

by TX Sleeve on 03-06-2013 at 12:37 AM
So, it's been 9 weeks since I was here last - so much has happened....

First, I have a surgery date: April 9th, 5 weeks from today. SO excited to be moving forward finally!

Second, it's been great to get really FOCUSED on this transformation. I have lost 35 POUNDS so far, and it feels GREAT to get some energy back, to feel my clothes getting looser, to get a HINT of what it will be like to get back to the REAL ME that I was 25 years ago.

My goal is audacious,
