Sleeved or not sleeved:
I have had a gastric sleeve.
Biography:
I have received a lot of private messages from people asking why I chose Dr. Quinones. My answers are here in this thread I started:

The people at this forum are super helpful. I would not have scheduled my surgery if I hadn't joined here.

Long story short, I do NOT have health insurance and I have been struggling at my current weight for about two years. Surgery is my final option after trying everything else, but with new US legislation next year that requires me to have health insurance, I can't put this surgery off anymore. A person at my weight will have an astronomical monthly insurance bill. And the annual penalty ($5,000) for not having insurance is less than my total bill with Dr. Quinones.

I feel good about my decision to fly to Tijuana and do this for myself. In fact, I wish I had thought about doing it sooner. A year from now, I hope to have lost enough weight that I'm scheduling body lift surgery in Tijuana as well.

For anyone wondering, "why would you take the risk of flying to Mexico to have this kind of procedure?" all I can say is, "it's worth the risk." It may not be that way for everyone, but my weight negatively affects every part of my life. I've gained and lost weight before. In fact, I lost 100 pounds six or seven years ago and kept it off for long over a year. I gained it back slowly, after some medication changes that resulted in an outrageous hormonal imbalance, which then resulted in hypothyroidism. This weight will not budge until I do something drastic. The cost of this surgery in the US is more than I am willing to pay out of pocket, and all of my research shows me there are surgeons in Tijuana that are just as qualified--if not MORE qualified--than surgeons here in the US.

I feel good about my decision to go with Dr. Sergio Quinones. It may not be the best decision for everyone, but I believe it's the best decision for me.

Two weeks to go!

by suelala on 01-18-2013 at 12:22 AM
According to my profile here at the forum, my surgery is in fourteen days. Wow. I blinked, and suddenly it's time to start my pre-op diet. I joined when I was 45 days out, and now, 14? It's unreal.

I can only hope the next 45 days go by just as fast. I can't wait to have this over with, be all healed up, and wear some of my old clothes again. I'm a little concerned because I have seen a few people mention that they aren't losing weight as quickly as they would like. I hope that

Surgery scheduled for 2/1/13

by suelala on 12-18-2012 at 03:09 PM
I just joined this forum a few days ago and thanks to the encouragement of a few members, I called Dr. Quinones' office this morning and scheduled my surgery. I could have done it in January, but I have some deadlines to meet that month, so I chose February 1, 2013. It's a Friday, 45 days away. Wow.

I'm still a little confused about how long the trip is. I think the friendly man on the phone told me I could come back home Monday, the fourth? If anyone here has any info, let me know.
