Great blog! Lots of good info. I have a BMI of 53 so that's why I'm on a 10 day liquid diet. I'm really having a hard time with it but I'm afraid not to do it because of recovery issues. Anything I can do to make recovery easier, I will do! I can't wait until I'm where you are.

Quick question, were you able to mix milk with your protein drinks after a certain amount of healing time? I like my protein drink with milk, but it's gross with water. Just wondering how long I have to suffer with that!

Hi BethJane! Surgery went well. I never got sick or anything. I was just reading a post that I had saved pre-surgery that said "anything can cause a leak, my DR said even a few spoonfuls of yogurt in the first few weeks." I'm concerned about the large white pills that we were given there (antibiotics). I asked the nurse at the hotel if I should crush it down or cut it, and he said no, I didn't have to if I can take it whole. Did you take yours whole? I have been every day so far.
  10. Hi Beth, my name is Rachel. Do you remember how far the Hospital is from the Hotel Ticuan? I find it odd that I cannot find actual addresses. However, I am trying to keep in mind that this is a different country, and probably do not list addresses as we do. I am trying to Google the locations, so my family knows where I am. Thanks for your help!

Hi BethJane, I'm going to Dr Almanza on Feb 11th. I've read a lot of your posts and have to say you really help to put my mind at ease about a number of things. First, of course, is about the Dr/clinic. But also about the things that you talk people through. Thank you!!! I hope it's okay that I'm sending a friend request

1.5 years post op

by BethJane on 07-10-2014 at 01:26 AM
Hi, just a couple of items. I have gained about 10 lbs. but I have discovered although I can't eat a large meal, I can eat many mini meals throughout the day. When I am working this is not a problem because I am busy working, but on my days off it is a problem. Also, I think my stomach is slowly stretching bigger, but not a lot. I had constipation for a long time after surgery and had to take stool softener tab daily, but not since I had my gall bladder out. The two best things I have done is

12 months update

by BethJane on 12-05-2013 at 01:38 AM
I've lost about 75 lbs in about 11 months now. I can eat anything but in smaller quantities. Recently, though I had a gall bladder attack and have to have it removed. A risk factor for gallstones is rapid weight loss, low fiber diet, and more. So I'm thinking all those months of of protein shakes could have contributed to this. So my new diet restrictions will be a non fat diet and I think that will not be hard and will probably make me lose more weight again.

Compliments, Yeah, Baby.

by BethJane on 03-02-2013 at 08:25 PM
Well, the compliments are finally arriving. I have lost about 43 lbs. and feel great, and my size 14 pants are getting loose on me. My Dad who is 78 y.o. (and I come from a really large family of skinny people) came over today and said "Wow! you've lost a lot of weight! Are you sick? How much weight have you lost?" Ha Ha, reminds me of a previous post here when a LOL at church had asked our sleever if she had the big C. My Dad had not seen me since 5 days post op, and, he does not

Back from OK city

by BethJane on 02-22-2013 at 04:57 PM
Hi, flew to OK city for 5 days, stayed with my sister and her family. She doesn't know I had a sleeve last December, so it was a real test to see if I can "get away with not telling". I feel my sleeve is my private confidential medical information and have no guilt about not sharing the info with anyone. I was nervous about the trip since I didn't know if I would get nausea or vomit because of different foods. Also, I would not have access to my own kitchen or a car to go buy what I might
