You had asked what a bougie is. Well it is the tube the surgeon passes down your throat and into you stomach during surgery. He uses this to measure the portion of the stomach that remains by stapling up next to it. The takes it back out before he does a leak test before removing the surgical tools. Bougies vary in size and the average is a 34. Some doctors use a 32 which will make the stomach very slightly narrower. Some use larger so their patients wont have as many issues with eating and drinking after surgery. Best wishes.
  8. My surgery date isn't set in stone yet, so it still may be pushed. However, due to my schedule, I know it can't be any sooner. I just talked to the insurance coordinator at Dr. Feiz's office today, and she will be checking with my insurance company for my approval. I'm hoping to hear something tomorrow or Wednesday. Once approved, I can finally begin working on my medical clearance (ekg, echo, treadmill, and blood work). I'll be waiting by the phone for the next two days!

Hi Kathy. You must be getting so excited! Mine is scheduled for Dec. 19th, so you'll be a couple of weeks ahead of me. That means I will be able to pick your brain about what to expect! I wish you all the luck in the world and will keep you and your surgeon in my thoughts.

Hi Kathy! Welcome to the group! I am learning so much from everyone here! It is a little difficult to figure out the format so I mostly just keep track of what my new friends are putting out there and have joined a couple of groups.
  14. Hi Kathy! Thanks for the friend request. Looks like your big day is rapidly approaching!!! I remember the excitement and fear of the unknown. Best decision of my life! Welcome!

6-Days Post Op and Feeling Fantastic

by hooverkm58 on 01-02-2013 at 10:49 AM
I'm doing fantastic! Hardly no pain at all. Yesterday, I finished my 33 oz Smart water and had at least 8oz of beef broth, 12 oz of Optisource caramel protein shakes and a lots of G2! I'm now eating Dannon Lite and fit Greek Yogurt too because I had diarrhea for the past 3 days and it has almost stopped with the help of the yogurt. The vanilla is soooooo delicious. Really No hunger at all which is why I wanted the sleeve. After 7 years of fighting with my lap band and always feeling hungry,

2-Days Post Op and Feeling Good!

by hooverkm58 on 12-29-2012 at 09:27 PM
Well, my surgery went well. I had my lapband a port removed, hiatal hernia repaired and my gastric sleeve. Pretty sore and bruised, but no nausea (Thank God!).

Today I was able to drink quite a bit more liquid. I'm drinking my Optisource (carmel) protein drinks, chicken broth, G2 Glacier Freeze and SmartWater. Been sipping all day.

Just a little left shoulder pain, but have been using the heating pad and my sweet hubby has been massaging it for me as well. He
