Hi Niamh, I just was wondering how you are doing? Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I am 7 weeks out and have had a hard time adjusting to how little I can eat. My mind wants more and then I vomit. Sorry to be so crude, but I am learning and things are a lot better. I am losing again and my biggest challenge is Christmas parties which have started already. Any advice? Shirley

Niamh, how do you know exactly what I need? I read your message about "nothing nice to say BLA BLA BLA" I also have a friend that had by -pass surgery , failed and tells me I am getting too thin or I look terrible when I have lost a lot of weight in the past. Thank you for the advice and I will be sure to use your words of wisdom when I start losing after my sleeve. Two more weeks till "sleeve day". Thanks again , you are very good and I have read many of your comments. It has helped immensely. You obviously care about all of us to take the time to help with your professional advice. Sincerely, Shirley

Great to hear from you and that's brilliant news that you are at your goal a year out. I want to be 154 pounds as I looked just right at that but the rate it's going I may get smaller. I don't want to be too skinny just wanted to get rid of the diabetes. Which I will find out next week when I get to hear the results of my labs .. I struggle go get in the multi vitamins which I know are so important. They make me feel so nauseous..
I will be back next August as my daughter is getting married. I would love to meet up with you.. It will be really good to meet someone else who ha had the same operation. I am feeling good ... Am amazed at the results.. The Bahamas was as great holiday.. Everyone needs to escape their life every now and again!
Good to hear from you all the best Hev

Thanks for the message...and I am doing fairly well. I have some lingering effects from IIH that we are still trying to get under control, but I have learned to not let those things hamper me anymore. I wasn't embarrassed to walk around with an extra 150 pounds, why should I be with a cane?!?! Keep posting...I look forward to what you have to say!

Great tri pictures! Wet suits are brutal when you're over weight (I posted one of me) - you look great in your wet suit and you should be very proud of your accomplishment. Did you tri before you were sleeved? I can not wait to race 100 lbs lighter next summer.

Yeah doing well and I am really enjoying having the constant dip in my weight. Love it. Love it love it.
Getting my sorry arse into the gym more often - I quite enjoy it when I'm not so pushed for time, but struggle when I do the long days at the office.
I'm loving my sleeve big time.

How the heck are you lady??? I hope this finds hyou doing really, really well. I am doing pretty good. I've noticed my old cravings have come back with a vengence. I am doing my best to ward them away. Exercise is now part of my everyday, so that should help combating some of the wrong things that I have eaten.

Have you talked with Fran recently? She and I talked about a month ago. She sounds happy and actually had gone out on a date!!!

You take care and hope to hear from you!

New Year's Reflections

by niamh on 01-10-2015 at 10:27 AM
I like the new year period. I enjoy reflecting on the previous year, and looking ahead to new plans.

My weight has been pretty stable since the second half of 2013. I'm not as disciplined in staying away from processed/junk food as I would like to be, but obviously it's in small amounts and not a problem weight wise. I am really keen to improve on this now for health/nutrition reasons rather than the weight issue.

I like that thinking about food and exercise for

Before-ish and After-ish

by niamh on 10-26-2014 at 04:22 PM
Last night I went to a charity ball. They have this event every two years, and I went last time, about 5 weeks after surgery when I'd already lost about 35lbs. I have some fairly grainy photos from both - but anyway it shows some difference!

I'm not very girly so don't get dressed up very often. However, it is lovely that now when I do have an occasion to go to, I can find things that fit and look good.

And, it was a three course meal. 2 years on, I had half a

Another exercise NSV

by niamh on 08-17-2014 at 03:42 PM
Yesterday I completed a 10k event. This is the furthest I've ever run in my life. I completed it in 1:09:04, just 9 minutes longer than it took me to do a 5k charity event that I walked in December 2012 just a couple of months after my surgery.

Over the next two months I have two more triathlon events (I've done two so far this summer) and another 10k and an 8k event (going to Amsterdam for this one). I am part of an online women's running community which I love being part of.

Exercise NSV

by niamh on 06-15-2014 at 03:28 PM
Today I completed a 5k charity event that I did last year as well. It is fundraising for cancer research and there are hundreds of these events held around the country through the summer.

Last year I completed in 43:29 and I was a little over my goal weight at that time. THAT was an achievement compared to the 60minute finish time when I'd walked a 5k the December before, about 10 weeks after surgery. Here was my blog post after the race last year;

18 months out .... update

by niamh on 03-26-2014 at 02:25 AM
Hi to everyone, lots of new people on the forum, and I know I'm one of the oldies who has fallen away a bit, but I try and come on from time to time and would be happy to be contacted by anyone who wants to chat to someone a bit further out.

Last Saturday was 18 months from my surgery date. My weight has stabilised and stays between 131-135 for several months now; this morning back at 131. This is below my goal weight (which I set at the weight I was as a young adult before putting
