Krissy! HI It is so good to hear from you! I am sorry things have been going a little slowly but you will still beat this disease if you have the determination! I have lost 90lbs as of this morning and have had 5 months of regular periods. I KNOW that working out 6 days a week has been a big part of my success- my body was desperate to move! I am thinking of you and sending lots of good energy that this next round is a success!

Unfortunately, I am extremely allergic to metaformin. I was put on it a while back and it made me so violently ill that I actually thought I had an appendix or intestine rupture. So I can't take it. My hope is that I will not need to take anything to treat PCOS symptoms- which seems to be working so far. I no longer have resistance to insulin so I am thinking it is off the table as a treatment for me now anyway. My loss has slowed also but now that I have reached a 60lb loss (in less than 4 months) it is to be expected that it would slow down! I've had to make sure I hit the gym 6 days a week to make sure I am still losing.

HEY! Don't be discouraged!! My doc said that the bodies natural cycle can be extremely confused and irregular for many months post surgery. There is no reason to be concerned that your cycle is not going to be regular after only one month. If 3 months pass without anything else happening ask your doctor about it but at this point, you shouldn't be too worried. Our bodies have had so much stress that we would be asking a LOT to have a perfectly regular period right out the gate!!
  5. I know my nutritionist said to wait a year before trying to get pregnant, but we're actively trying now. If it happens, it happens...ya know? I just don't want to prevent it, we've waited 10 years for this. If after a year we've had no luck, there is an excellent fertility facility near me called the Jones Institute for Reproductive Technology. I'll start treatments there, they even offer financing!

Vaniqua didn't work for me at ALL- but that was before surgery. Now I am wondering if it might help me.
I have the razor situation going on too- but like you said, its completely worth it if I can have a baby!!

I am happy to report that I did get my first period about a week after I posted the message you are referring to. I was beyond thrilled. While the hirtsuisum is improving slowly- I am not expecting a noticeable difference for at least a year- I'd love for it to move faster but it is just the sort of thing that wants to hang on and on. My surgeon told me to expect about a 75% decrease though as an average so I am thinking those are good odds.
  8. Yes, ovulation has returned and I'm now charting my cycles and all the pre-conception things I always wanted to do but couldn't without my monthly visitor. The hirsutism is going away, and I couldn't be happier about that. Has your hirsutism completely left? And if so, how long did it take? I noticed you said your cycle hadn't gone back to normal yet, I had my surgery on 8/28 and I had my first cycle start on 10/4. So yours should be well on its way!!!! It's nice to find other girls with PCOS, we can all share information and be each other's support systems.

I agree- its been the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. I cannot believe how fast the weight is dropping- I'll be under 200lbs in 9 lbs!! I'm sorry to hear you also suffer from PCOS, it really is a terrible condition that has taught me a lot of patience and compassion but I am so grateful to know things are getting better for us all!

Just what the heck is a gall bladder, anyway?

by krissyfor on 04-28-2013 at 09:33 PM
Well I have figured out the source of my almost constant pain/pressure under my breast bone that I've been dealing with for two months. Apparently, I have gallstones brought on by weight loss....from weight loss surgery. The two things seem to contradict each other, right? I now understand why the gallbladder is removed during the RNY procedure....it's to avoid the intense pain of a gallbladder attack. For those of you who haven't experienced this lovely sensation, it feels almost like you're having

My Sleeve Journey....hopefully this will inspire those who aren't sleeved or are recently sleeved!

by krissyfor on 04-22-2013 at 06:04 PM
When I decided I wanted to have weight loss surgery in March of 2012, I knew there were going to be challenges. My first challenge was the grueling 6 month weight loss trial that my insurance company required. Once a month for 6 whole months, I had to see my primary doctor and discuss what I was or wasn't doing to help my diabetes, borderline high blood pressure and cholesterol. Well, the first thing my primary doctor did was put me on a hunger control medication called Phentermine. Right off
