Yes: things to take - socks with the grippies at the bottom, a pair of leggings, tights, or sweats to wear under your gown after surgery, a nice sweater or a snuggie..rooms get really cold..several pairs of undies...you will have diarrhea at any given moment after you drink the liquid for the leak test... toiletries..soap, facial cleanser, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant...lotion. travel size of course...laptop or ipad/tablet..for boardem...earphones...get an app on your phone for spanish translation..phone charger..chapstick or carmex, gasx strips...wear sports bars and not normal bras...you will irriate the incision sight.. make yourself walk as soon as you can....walk around as much as you can..everyone on staff is friendly and professional...just trust them to do what they do. call them whenever you need them...you really are in good hands...dr. rod will visit you everyday that you are there. don't be nervous...its really a good experience...very professional, beautiful hospital and people. very beautiful spirits...where light and easy clothing... preferably maxi dress or light workout clothing...be as comfortable as possible and relax....eat the ice chips...thats all you will be able to tolerate...hope all this helps...good look and your in my prayers....see you on the sleeved side!
  9. I also want to add that my mother was one of the biggest nay-sayers when I was preparing for my surgery. She thought I had lost my mind, leaving the country for such a "questionable surgery". Now she is singing their praises to all who will listen!
  10. Yes, we all used Dr. Rod and his assistant surgeon, Dr. Elmo. We all love these guys and I know that you will too! The staff is smart & friendly and the hospital is beautiful! You will be in very capable hands. If you don't know Spanish, the language barrier can be a little sobering. I took along my laptop and kept it on Translate Google for when we occasionally encountered a nurse that knew no English.
If anyone is going with you, make sure they have plenty of $1 bills to buy meals in the cafe downstairs. ($3-4 per meal) Also let them know that you can't carry food back up to the room unless it's in a bag... at least that's how I smuggled my food back up to sit with my mother They also need to purchase a couple of bottled drinks to keep on hand each day because figuring out the beverage machines is a real chore. I never figured it out and I've been there 3 weeks this year! lol! So in short, they are so good and you you will be so well-cared for that I'm more worried about whoever is going with you starving while there!
Also, you can call your patient facilitator if you need them. Both doctors will be in quite often to check with on you. You will probably see Dr. Elmo more... which is great because he is so good-looking that it's almost hard to look him in the eye! They are both very engaging & funny and really seem to care about their patients.

Easy-Peasy Surgery

by Harts4you on 12-14-2012 at 04:21 PM
Thank you to you all for the many, many good wishes and prayers. I had
my surgery 2 weeks ago and it was easy-peasy, lol. I had no pain, no gas,
no problems of any kind. I highly recommend Dr. Jose Rodriguez. My surgery only took about 35 minutes but I was in recovery about 3 hours. I remember
being taken to the pre-surgery area and trying to talk to the nurse. Then all
I remember was waking up in my room and seeing my husband. I slept through
it all, lol.

Today's my big day!!!

by Harts4you on 11-29-2012 at 03:08 AM
Leaving for the airport in a few hours. I have everything packed and ready to go. I feel like a little girl on Christmas Eve. It's going to be such a big, exciting day! I'm taking my puter with me, so I will try to post as soon as I can. Of course I was on my feet all day yesterday getting things ready and now both of my ankles are killing me. I broke one and badly sprained the other one about 3 months ago and had to postpone my surgery until today. Oh, well, I'll be getting pain meds before

a little of this, a little of that

by Harts4you on 11-25-2012 at 09:59 AM
It's really weird, I was getting scared about my surgery right before Thanksgiving. I was doubting what the heck I was doing. I am scheduled for Nov 29. I was lucky, my pre-op instructions said that I could eat all the chicken or turkey I wanted along with my liquid protein. So I ate lots of turkey on Thanksgiving day but I did sneak in 1 teaspoon of dressing. Not too bad. On Friday, I ate leftover turkey and had 2 teaspoons of sweet potato casserole, ended up spitting most of that out, way

changing my surgery date

by Harts4you on 09-17-2012 at 01:19 AM
Hi Sleevers, so sorry to tell you that I have to postpone my surgery. I fell down some stairs on Tuesday, Sept 4th and broke my ankle in 3 places. I was in the hospital for 3 days and have a brace on the other badly sprained ankle and a cast on the broken ankle, with 3 long screws inside. So I will be postponing my surgery because my injury will not be healed by Oct 6th.
In a lot of ways I am really upset because I wanted my surgery so badly. But I have read so much here about bloodclots
