I told my immediate family only. And my aunt who I stayed with in San Diego. My parents were extremely alarmed about me going to Mexico. I told them I refused to change my mind. They left me alone.
I traveled with my boyfriend. He has been very supportive and paid for the surgery and trip.
I'm nearly 3 weeks post-op. I feel great. I exercise nearly everyday - walking on my elliptical machine. I've finally worked my way up to 10 minutes. My incisions itch like crazy. Healing well.
I am on pureed foods this week. I struggle to swallow thick foods. Heartburn is bothering me - especially in the evening when i lay down. No complications. I'm type 2 diabetic. I've not taken insulin since the surgery. And I'm excited about that! However, one of my diabetic friends brought me back to reality when he said, "Your blood sugar is stable because you're on liquid diet. Wait till you begin eating real food." I hope and pray he's wrong!
I have a lot of support actually, but no one who's been through the same surgery.
How far post-op are you? Did you go alone? How do you manage food?
