Hi Jakelynn, hope you are doing well. I noticed you haven't been on in a while. I've been briefly lurking off and on, but wanted to stop by and see how things are going. Hope you get the chance to check in.
  2. Kodakmom: I found these Buy Centrum Flavor Burst Chews Adult Multivitamins, Mixed Fruit & More | drugstore.com and they are really good tasting.

    you look beautiful! Great job!
  4. How long do I have to use chewable multivitamins? I am 6 months out from surgery and am about out of them. I hate the taste of them and am ready for the regular swallow kind. When did the rest of you switch? I don't have an appointment with my Dr. for another few weeks and I need to buy some soon.

Wow, making all those sweets and only taking a pinch of fudge!! Amazing!! Good for you!! No unfortunately my husband hasn't had any relief yet. We meet with the sleeve surgeon this Wednesday and go over the results of his Upper GI. Thankfully no leaks, but does have acid reflux BAD!!

In case you miss this post on the main forum, I had my much awaited consult with the doctor, dietitian, etc today. Dr and staff were great, but found out my insurance only allows the sleeve surgery if my BMI is over 50. Mine is 41, so they will only cover the Bypass surgery (or the lapband, which won't happen). The doctor said maybe next year they will change their requirements. My doctor said I was a good candidate for the bypass too, but would rather do what I'm more comfortable with. Pretty bummed about it. This totally caught me off guard.

Thank you so much for all of the info! I need to call about my colonoscopy. I think I had one last year. You'd think I'd remember. Although I DO remember drinking all of that nasty stuff, so a pill would be great. I'd just rather not take it again if I didn't have to. Did you take a sleep test or have sleep apnea? Dr Reiss did my seminar too and said if you test for it, you have to be on the Cpap. I was tested years ago, but didn't feel any benefits from the mask so I didn't keep using it. Did you come home with a drain? My husband still has one about 5 weeks out, but he also had a hernia repair too. Can't wait for my consult on Thursday!!
  10. Sorry the post was too long so read in reverse.
  11. They are so informative ya almost don't have to ask Dr. Reiss any questions because by the time you see her they have answered every question you might have. I look at it this way, SHE was an instrument to get the procedure done. I have NO problems with her surgical skills, just her bedside manner is in serious need of a tweeking. I also have not seen HER since that 1st postsurgery appointment. I have seen her PA and that is ok with me. I probably would have let her know just how she made me feel, now that I am stronger. I just wasn't anticipating her behavior. As for the tests......Yes they make you do ENOUGH test. I think it is a great thing though. I had test I would NEVER have done otherwise..colonoscopy for one! And I probably won't do that one again!!! ha ha! I did find out that there is a pill or pills you can take instead of drinking that horrific liquid. I hope this answers your questions. This journey is difficult and glorious all at the same time. I would do it again in a heartbeat....just with a different Dr. Good luck on your path. It is great to talk to someone closer to home on the same journey. I look forward to talking again. Ask anything anytime.
  12. DebbieNTexas, Thank you so much. I used Dr. Reiss because she did the seminar and seemed so personable. Also, I could get in to see her so much sooner than Dr. Pilcher. I was in a hurry to get started. I should have just waited an extra week for an appointment with him. But you know how it is when you finally get to that point, You just don't want to wait any longer than ya have to. I don't know if Dr. Pilcher has other officesm but I will tell you if you use Dr. Reiss you will have to see her at one of 2 offices and ya never know which one because well, she plays musical office and they don't tell you which office to go to unless you ask. One office is on Datapoint and the other is on Huebner. FYI...The vitamins you need to take are only sold at the Huebner office. They have a display at the Datapoint office but you can't get them there. Something you may take into consideration is, it may just be a personality conflict for her and I. I overheard her talking to another patient and her repore with her was great. I don't really know why she is the way she is with me. I DO LOVE her supporting staff. Her PA and ALL the other employees are FABULOUS.

Hi Jakelynn, you have done fantastic!! I was sorry to read about the comparison Dr. Reiss made to you, that was very unprofessional IMO. Just curious, why her over Dr Pilcher? I was doing searches to try and find anyone from their office that had it done. A friend of mine had Dr Pilcher and she loved him. I have my consult visit with everyone next Thursday. Wow, they sure had enough tests for you. I have a 6 month wait for my insurance requirement, have to meet with a Nutritionist monthly.

I love your before and after pictures. I will be thrilled will your success. I look forward to reading more about it. I am thinking of starting a blog next week when it all starts for me. Nice to find someone that went to the same place.

Well I've looked into this for several years. I am a self pay and scared to take the leap into a payment but I woke up one day and said somethings got to give so It was the end of October I decided I didn't care, I would get a second job if need be, once i healed and have more energy. Hopefully sometime in December... I don't want to change my mind. :-)

stomach bug....READ MED LABELS BEFORE YOU TAKE THEM!!!

by Kodakmom on 11-02-2012 at 12:08 AM
So I weigh less than 200!!!! FINALLY! I am so extremely happy. I lost 7.6 lbs this week alone, thanks to a stomach bug I got from a band student. I was rather concerned about the whole throwing up/ diarrehia. I didn't want to get dehydrated so I mostly drank propel all d.ay. I was also concerned with what I could take for the normal sicknesses. So I really didn't take any medicine. It was odd and totally not prepared for the change in what I am allowed to take when I get sick. We all take for

I have a waist!!!!

by Kodakmom on 08-26-2012 at 11:11 PM
I had my surgery Jun 28,2012. I was nervous/excited. I started this journey weighing in at 270 lbs in April 2012. Boy was that a tramatic day when I got on the scales and saw that number. So I knew I had to do something. I have several cousins who did the gastric sleeve and they are all so skinny, I did A LOT of research, found a bariatric center and worked with my insurance to make it happen. I didn't tell anyone but my husband and one of my sons (he is the supportive one of my kids) what I was
