    Thank You!
  10. well I got a call from them this morning and they want to pick me and another person up tomorrow at the airport and get our bloodwork done on Thursday versus Friday. So I'm hoping this means I be first in line on Friday morning. If thats the case, I hope then that I can leave the hospital that night and just recoop at the hotel. Thanks for the info I've already prewarned my aunt this may be the case.

Everyone that brought a guest was separated. Patients were upstairs, guest were downstairs. My surgery was at 7:30 pm and my bmi was 40. The order they seemed to go in was the order of the bloodwork. So try to be first in line when you get there. And them making switch beds 3 times was because they were running out of room. There were 6 patients before noon and nine patients after noon. Thats alot of folks in that teeny tiny clinic. They will feed the guests once while they wait...and you will smell it all day. That really sucked lol. The hotel is beautiful and the restaurant is awesome. My husband said it was the best food he had ever eaten.
  12. So you didn't see your husband the entire day of surgery??? I've asked these guys specificially if my aunt was going to be able to sit with me before surgery and they are telling me yes. I sure hope that's not the case, she's not that excited about going in the first place let alone me leaving her by herself all day. That kinda stinks. What time was your surgery? and if you don't mind me asking what was your bmi? I was told today thats how they determine the "order" in which people go in. Do you think they kept making you switch beds just to get you up and moving???

Jerusalem Hospital is very small and there were a lot of us having surgery that day. The dr was in surgery all morning and our group of 9 didn't start until noon. I was next to last in the group. I felt like we were being herded in and out like cattle. In recovery, they let my husband come in for less than 5 minutes then took him to the hotel. They kept making me get up and change beds which I thought was odd. At 11:30 pm I finally went to my last bed. I was in a lot of pain. I rang my buzzer on the wall. The young man came in promptly but didn't do anything for me. He kept telling us to go to sleep. Finally at 4:30 am after crying all night he gave me something in my iv and a shot in the butt. I slept for 1 hour before he came in and woke me up to tell me "get dressed, its time to go". Once I got to the hotel, I was so relieved to see my husband again. If you bring someone with you, you will not see them before the surgery either. There is no room for everyone so they separate the patients and guests. Expect a lot of pain the first 3 or 4 days because you can't take anything orally. You will be relying on them for your meds through your iv. They shuttle you back and forth daily from the hotel or recovery house. Make sure you ask when they pick up next. I almost missed a trip because nobody told me. I do not regret having the surgery but the level of care and compassion is very different than in the U.S. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Yes, I was pretty freaked out. I am not commenting on the expertise of Dr. Almanza, merely the process of deception that I encountered along the way. From what I have read, many patients have been successful with Dr. Almanza. The point of my blog was to educate people to investigate thoroughly before committing to surgery. Imagine how you would feel if you arrived in TJ expecting to have your confirmed doctor doing your surgery only to discover that he were not there or that another doctor would be doing your surgery! Traveling across the continent to this situation would be most upsetting. Wishing you all the best in your upcoming transformation!

Day 3 of Pre-op diet and have had a major headach all day... HELP!

by tete1205 on 07-02-2012 at 11:32 PM
Today is day 3 of my 7 day pre-op liquid diet. I woke up with a splitting headache I can't seem to shake. I have taken tylenol, drank some unsweetened tea thinking it was caffiene withdraws, drank protien drinks, ate broth, and slept most of the day and I still can't shake it.

I'm scared that if I'm struggling this much pre-op what's it going to be like after the surgery. I keep trying to tell myself I'm in training, but it's not working out as well as I'd like it to be.

Starting to pack for surgery in TJ...heating pad?

by tete1205 on 07-01-2012 at 08:26 PM
I am starting my packing list for my surgery in mexico on Friday. I have read several posts and some AWESOME packing lists that I plan to incorporate into my own. I've read in some posts to bring a heating pad. Can anyone tell me why or what it is for? Also, I can't seem to find "wound wash" does someone have another antiseptic that's safe to use?

All tips are always welcomed!

Head Hunger

by tete1205 on 07-01-2012 at 01:24 PM
So it's day 2 of pre-op diet and I'm going a bit bonkers! LOL I am keeping busy in my empty classroom to keep my mind and body out of the refrigerator... but I'm not always too successful with the mind part. I do keep telling myself this is all worth it and that I'll be fine; but I wonder how those of you that have been sleeved deal with the "head hunger". I know this is a process and really the root of my problem (emotional, bordom, etc. eating).

I've lost my mind....

by tete1205 on 06-24-2012 at 11:10 AM
I know I've posted things about being excited and scared about this surgery; but I do believe now that I'm more excited about it. Like a kid waiting for Christmas I guess.

This weekend I have prepared for the beginning of my liquid diet. Thrown out food, bought items for my trip and recovery, even had my "last meal" before I began my pre-op liquid diet - which doesn't start for another 5 days!

Yeah, I'm so excited about my new life that I had my mind set

A loss I'm looking forward to

by tete1205 on 06-22-2012 at 02:57 AM
We all have a story. I've read some inspiring ones on this site that have touched me. I can't help but believe that documenting your journey helps in recovery and motivation to keep moving forward.

My story started 10 years ago when I married my best friend and then lost him to a tragic death a year after we married. Since then I bought a new home (that is now in foreclosure), went back to school, quit my cushy 8 to 5 high paying corporate job to teach Kindergarten Yeah, not
