    Hi janet,

I was reading in one of your earlier posts that you have arthritis. I was wondering if the nurse practioner was able to perscribe you something other than nsaids? If so can you tell me what it was or still is and has it helped?

Thank you for your comment, I feel exactly that it is supposed to happen this way. My hubby and I are very relieved right now and it allows us to focus on our baby and not have to make him grow up faster like we had to do with our first two being 14 months apart. I hope you are doing well I appreciate your comments always.

    Hi Janet,

I am starting my liquid diet today. Can you give me any tips, food wise that I need to get? I live alone and have no help, so I need to get everything before next week for my surgery. I do not have any help, so I was wondering what you would advise. Also, I am drinking coffee, but I understand that it needs to be caffeine.
Thanks so much for any information, tips, ect. that I could start buying before next week. Thanks so much...... You are an inspiration to me......Can I put frozen fruit in my shakes? My nutritionist dropped off a large bag of chocolate and one banana (not a big fan of), but thankful he did it for me free. I think I need to get a new blender, I have a nutribullet, but I think I burned out the motor. I am a HOT Mess........ thanks again..... I have been so wrapped up with my 3 week old grandson and the 3 others I have lost myself..........thank you so much, Patty

    Thanks for the welcome!!!!!
  7. No worries - you will do fine!! I have learned wherever I go to pick up and have available the things I need - anyone that knows you have done this surgery understands why you are bringing your own cottage cheese etc. :-) I would just make sure you have some of your "safe" favorites available. I bring my protein powder or my protein bars whenever I go anywhere because I know I can always get milk and have what I need. I, like you, am able to easily control what is around me. I am self employed and make my own hours so I can eat what I need, when i need to - I don't go out to eat because it isn't worth it anymore - (think of the money saved!!) ;-) I have no grandchildren yet - but I hear it is what it is all about!! Have a wonderful trip & trust your sleeve!

Thanks for the thoughts and encouraging posts. I'm doing my best to remain positive and it helps having support here from people such as yourself!
  9. Yes, grazing is a concern for me too, in fact spoke with dietitian about it but she said as long as you are eating the amount you lay out for the day that it doesn't matter if you are eating every 2 hours as long as you don't eat the wrong things. I have all sorts of little containers that hold roughly 2 oz that I set up every 2 days with yogurt, cottage cheese, canned chicken, diced pears, bean soup, blueberries, oatmeal etc. and just grab them & put them in my lunch bag and eat them throughout the day. Quest bars have been my vice & treat & I have one a day instead of a protein shake. Don't have any trouble meeting the 60-90 g protein a day but if I didn't choose the right foods I could certainly go over 1000 cal. I have been doing the treadmill intermittently but just not for a couple weeks . Have gone on two vacations & managed to maintain or still lose a pound or two when I get home but it is slow now & I am about 49 pounds down from surgery, about 74 pounds down from the start of this journey so I feel good & optimistic about the future. About 30 pounds from my personal goal but to be honest I would be happy even with another 10 or so. I, like you, still feel hunger but it is not the same as pre surgery - and so easily fixed with a few ounces of food. So glad we can share & support one another and it is nice to be able to chat with another person who is at the same place in this journey.
  10. Hi Janetm! Looks like we are sleeve sisters as I was sleeved same day as you & am just short of my 5 months. Things have slowed down here too & would love to jump start them - eating slightly more than at 4 months but still ranging about 850-900 cal a day (previous to this surgery that would have been the jump start!) lol.

That picture is from Cancun last year. My husbands company sends couples away on an all inclusive trip every March. I will not be going this year as I have what's called a portal vein thrombosis. That's the decending vein from the liver, a blood clot in other words. I'm on Coumadin and can't fly. I'm so down and I totally regret doing this. I'm sorry to sound like such a downer but...
Any how, thank you for your very kind words. You made a darker day much brighter. Something about this site that is comforting, everyone is so kind and there seems to be no negativity.
I know "this too shall pass" and I'm really looking forward to that day!
Have a great day and hope to chat again soon.

Thank you so much for the info! I have a suggestion that might help, if you can get plain whey protein (no flavor) you can add that to chicken or beef broth and that way you'll still get the protein and have a change from the sweet stuff. I have a sweet tooth as well but you can definitely get sick of eating the same thing day in and day out until we are able to have regular food again. Hope your incisions heal faster for you! My surgeon uses a tool called the spider so they make one incision into the bellybutton about and inch and that it for me. They have to repair a hiatal hernia as well but that does not require any additional cuts so I am hoping to be out of the hospital in no time and feeling better. Sending you waves of encouragement!

birthday today ... almost 10 months since surgery

by janetm on 08-22-2014 at 10:07 PM

The best present I gave myself this year was my sleeve. I've lost 96 lbs. - still have a few more to lose but I am feeling fabulous. Here's a picture taken almost a year ago last September at my son's wedding. I knew then that it was time to do something. I had been considering the sleeve surgery and when I returned home after the wedding celebrations I booked myself for the next month and was sleeved on November 4th.

Some recent pics ...

by janetm on 07-10-2014 at 09:27 PM
- September 2003

My husband took some pics the other day. He knew I wasn't seeing the dramatic changes that have occurred over the past few months. The scale is moving down very slowly ... when it moves at all. But I can see (with my sweet man's help) that inches are disappearing. I just want to share ... what everyone says about taking measurements is a good idea. It will help you get through the slow times.

Back from 16 day vacation and 5 lbs down!!!!!

by janetm on 04-29-2014 at 07:21 AM
I can't believe it! 16 days away and I lost weight - the sleeve is working for me!

I was sleeved at the beginning of November and this is the first vacation since then. I am self-employed and work from home so having full control of what I eat has been easy for me. I generally have what I need in the fridge and pantry so this 16 days away from my controlled environment was a test for me. I visited friends and family so had to have meals that were, for the most part provided.

70 lbs. lost!! Yahoo!!! ... Pictures attached

by janetm on 03-08-2014 at 06:09 AM
Well ... I thought it was time to upload some pictures since today I hit the 70 lbs. lost mark!

My surgery was on Novemebr 4/14. After a rough start I finally settled into life with my new sized stomach and things have been going pretty well since the beginning of January. I've weathered a few stalls and expect there will be more to get through before I reach my goal (150 lbs.). I am so happy to have made the "sleeve" decision. Having struggled for years (I have been overweight
