I had my surgery on 12/10 and I woke up two mornings ago with a very painful, stiff, and swollen thumb joint. Can this be related to the surgery in anyway ? Has anyone experienced a flair up like this after surgery ?
Sounds like gout. Probably a coincidence.
I have had a swollen thumb joint for a few years now, just on 1 side. The side that always held the IV or blood bag while the other hand spiked - it is still painful even though I've been off work for a year now. Hurts to pick up anything heavy like a skillet, etc. If it came up suddenly it probably wouldn't hurt to check with your doctor. Sometimes when people are out for anesthesia, they can rest or be moved in a way that wrenches your joints. I had a shooting pain down the back of one arm for 2 weeks every time I moved my neck wrong. My neck might have got arched too hard when they intubated me - I have arthritis in my neck so it doesn't take much to set it off.
I conquer with Magwe and Juann. I would check with the doctor.
My GP says gout.
Thanks for the update. Magwe was right!
