I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow and just took my stitches out and has this hole from the Jackson Pratt drainage system. I am so scared from it being open like that and does not want it to get infected. I tried putting on closure strips but from the drainage it makes them come right off. Now all I do is cover it with 4 x 4 and sometimes I'll use iodine as an antiseptic. Glad to say it shows no signs of infection no odor or abnormal drainage, but it does hurt. Can anyone tell me how long the opening will stay open.

I would just keep it clean and as dry as possible. Mine had a deep scab on it and took over a month to heal completely. I kept it clean with half strength peroxide and q-tip and covered it with a big band aide. It did drain for about a week. I think we worry too much about infection. Hope it heals okay for you.

I just kept mine covered with a bandaid and changed it daily after my shower. It has scabbed over and is healing.
