Home sleep study

I was informed yesterday that my insurance will pay for a home sleep study. I was hoping to be able to go to the clinic but it is what it is. Has anyone else had to do a home study? I'm not sure what it will involve but I envision some Oompa Loompa type characters showing up to hook me up to the monitors....Yes I do have a wacky imagination!
    Thanks!

I had a home sleep study, I am under the London Chest Clinic and they showed me how to wire myself up, and it was easy. Comapared with having an over night sleep study in hospital, (where it is harder to sleep anyway) it was much easier.

After numerous phone calls, my home sleep study kit arrived. Tonight I'll hook myself up & hopefully won't get beamed up to a spaceship!

Did the sleep study last night. Watched the DVD that came with it & had no problems hooking everything up. The biggest problem was my cat Rocket wanting to play with the wires.
Will mail it back tomorrow & then wait some more. I'll be calling weekly if I don't get the results soon.

Good luck with your results! I worried my cats would chew on my hose after I was put on my BiPAP. Luckily, they don't!

It takes about 2 weeks to get the results of the home study. Approaching 2 months since seeing the sleep specialist. My patience is reaching the breaking point.

Results are in & I had numerous episodes. The data is not the quality of a study done in a clinical setting, but it is something to work with. Waiting to receive a CPAP & an appt @ the clinic to set it up.

Hi nana banana - just saw your post. I had not heard of a home study; but I've used a cpap for about 10 years. After my initial sleep study, I have once or twice had a fancy cpap for a night or two that would record / figure out the right pressure for me. They use that info to set my cpap. The machines have gotten much smaller and better. I'm hoping to get off the machine after the sleeve.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I want to get the Cpap so I can sleep well, have some energy etc... Then have my sleeve & hopefully be able to get off the Cpap! Patiently playing the waiting game....the WTF is taking so long phone calls start tomorrow.

Called my insurance company & got irate over this entire process. We did a confrence call with Sleep Management Solutions & amazingly I should be getting a Cpap in the next week. Also a visit from a respiratory therapist to set it up.
This has been such bullshit. I started this process 3/27.

Hi! I am new to this group. I just ad my sleep study about two weeks ago, had my follow up appointment with the dr who said I have severe sleep apnea. Now, I am just waiting to pick up my machine. Should be ready Monday or Tuesday! Not looking forward to the mask but can't wait to sleep well again. My Dr will not schedule my surgery until I have a few weeks on the machine. I understand cause I want the surgery to be uncomplicated and he said patients with apnea and not being treated have more complications so I am willing to uncomplicated the surgery as much as I can.

Good thing is that the machine will auto adjust the amount of air that is needed by me. I also get to try 30 different mask until I find the right fit for me. I think technology is awesome! Glad I found this group. Everyone is so knowledgable on apnea and the machines.
