Are you having the surgery in Mexico? Who's your doctor? Mine is Dr Quinones. I hear really great things about him. I joined a gym today and had a session with a personal trainer. I hope to be 180 lbs by my surgery date. The trainer thought that my 130 goal might be a bit too aggressive. He said he thought I would be healthy at 150. Said that it would be better for me to gain muscle mass and go from my current 42% body fat to 20%. He thought I might have excess skin if I went lower than 150 lbs. I will continue working out after my sleeve. I will revaluate my weight goal once I see how I look at 150. Trying my best to increase my protein intake and decrease my carbs in the meantime. I really like muscle milk right now. I hear the taste buds change after surgery. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I still like it. Not much into the other protein drinks I've tried.

I will start the pre-op diet at the beginning of February. I think we will do well with the surgery since we are lower bmi-ers. Do as best as you can on the pre-op diet but don't kill yourself. I know quite a few people who didn't follow it closely and that did not hinder their surgery

I am in Santo Domingo, so I am having it done it here. I am not going crazy witht he pre op diet. Just making good choices and not over eating or snacking. I am soooooo excited! I hate the gym, although I always go. I have not been going int he last 2 months due to crazy holidays. I plan to start up again tomorrow. Where are you from> I am original from Miami, but am currently living in Domincan Republic.

I live in Naples, Florida, only 2 hours away from Miami. I go there all the time. I will be making even more trips there once I get my sexy bod back (lol). You must keep in touch with me I really want to know how your surgery goes. I also want to know how you do post op. Because you and I have less weight to lose than most I am wondering if our results will be slower than others with higher BMIs. I think the one general theme/lesson that I've learned from sleeved patients reading all the forums is that the key to high weight loss in the beginning months after surgery is HIGH ACTIVITY and PROTEIN. It's great that you are going to the gym. That will help tremendously. Just ask the Doctor how soon after surgery would be safe to exercise as you do not want to pull or strain anything.

Hi all other low BMI-ers. I have not had the sleeve yet but am enthusiastic but also scared. I have a BMI of 32 and am a couple of weeks post breast cancer surgeries and chemo/radio treatments. This is my second dance with cancer and second left side lymphectomy. I know that losing my weight will improve my chances of recovery as well as minimising some of the debilitating legacies of cancer treatment. However I am a bit scared that after losing the weight I will then resent the strict eating regime. Do any of you have the same fears?

Hi Inx! Hope you are recovering well. When are you planning on having the surgery? Food has always been my crutch for when I'm feeling sad, lonely, let down and almost every bad emotion I have experenced. I love the food going in but always regretted it the next day and absoluted hated what the overeating did to my body. I won't regret the restrictive eating. The good thing about it is i'll still be able to eat everything, but I won't be able to make a pig of myself. I do need help. I have a strong family history of high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney failure. I welcome some type of tool to save me from myself. I guess I'll have to find a new activity to substitute when I a feeling those bad emotions. Maybe I can become addicted to going to the gym (at least I'm hoping). I am loving the Phrase "Nothing Tastes as Good as Skinny Feels". I guess I am also not afraid because I keep hearing the recurring theme among a group of post oppers that have shared their journeys with me and they say they have no regrets and would make the same choice to have the surgery again if they had to.

Thank you for your words of encuragement Newme. I am booked to see the surgeon in two weeks. I am in Australia so I am not sure how many hoops we have to jump through prior to surgery being allowed. Every time I think about being 'normal' again I just can't wipe the smile off my face

Hi low BMI-ers, I am getting nervous about my surgery next week (Sat Jan 19) with Dr Quinones. I am grateful for all the experience and stories, good and bad, from the sleevers on these forums. Last week on Thursday and asked for the very first appointment I could get with Dr Quinones. No time to think about it, just get it done and move forward. I'm sick of feeling fat, broken and hating my body. Broken? Yes I feel completely broken. Severe knee arthritis that hurts more when I have more weight stuck to my ass, sleep issues, fertility issues, hormone issues. The fatter you are the less your hormones work. Estrogen dominance can be the precurser to MANY types of cancer in women. I have estrogen dominance. My bloods were done on cycle day 3 and 21 and I'm aging fast. I can't fall asleep easily and I think it's due to a lack of melatonin (it's also a hormone) and my thyroid is very high. At the fertility clinic they said you need to be above 2 or 1 for your endocrine hormones to be producing estrogen/progesterone etc properly. I'm way over 5. All systems get bogged down by being fat! Hormones are fat soluable. So they can treat me for infertility (they pump hormones through you so that you produce LOTS of eggs) but my fat will simply absorb the hormones and I may not react to the treatment. IVF only going to be $8000 out of pocket so I thought, the first thing I need to do is tackle my weight. Then, if I need it, we can go forward with IVF. If I tackle my weight first, I might even be a howt mama. I've read so many pregnancy stories about women with the sleeve, terrified of gaining weight, they do gain weight, it's healthy with pregnancy but then they have the baby and off it comes.

In learning about how fat slows down all of your systems from working properly my biggest light bulb moment is all those women who've got breast cancer in their 40's & 50's. How many people realize that when we stop ovulating (menopause) we stop producing progesterone which leads to estrogen dominance. An abundance of estrogen makes it VERY hard to loose weight. I know Suzanne Sommers preaches about hormone replacement but I had NO idea how important balance is in the body. Here I am and my body is that of a 48+ year old woman (I'm 37). Stage 4 arthritis, estrogen dominance, infertile. Frig, just get me a gun lol. But seriously, I know this will help me immensely. I'm a BMI 30.3 right now and when I got down to 25.1 (170 lbs) in 2007 I felt awesome. I want to feel like that again. I want to take it further and get to my goal of 135-145. Like you said above, will evaluate once I get down there how it feels.

I'm so glad to be a part of this group and part and share your journey. I can't wait to hear how you're all doing and how the surgery went. I want to know your struggles, share recipes etc. Thanks for posting, thanks for listening and I'm sorry if my post was a little long winded.

Slim! i am also doing this so I can later get pregnant. I am 38 turning 39 in May. My BMI is 30. I know exactly how you feel. ITS THE WORST. But its all going to tget better real soon. I am here for you. My surgery is January 16th.

On another note, before you asked about the pace of losing weight. I just read a post here about another low BMI who has lost 15lbs in 3 weeks. So that might give you some indication.

I am so ready! I can see you are too! We can do this! And we are going to be so happy! No more physical and emotional pain.

Hello. I have a BMI of 39, but have multiple co-morbidities so am pursuing surgery. I seem to think that most folks who get bariatric surgery have BMI's of 40+? My youngest son's wedding is in April, so won't have the surgery until after that. Am currently visiting with all my specialists to get clearance. Have visited with the weight loss surgeon already and he recommended gastric sleeve. My husband is terrified of me having surgery, my sons and daughter are supportive. You know, I quit smoking 13 years ago and found that experience freeing. I am hoping the excessive food will go the way of the cigarettes and I will be free of the overwhelming hunger. Also hope my gastroparesis will benefit from the procedure, although there is no guarantee. I want to be able to exercise normally instead of being bound to exercises in the pool. I don't want to die a slow death from obesity.

It seems I am older than most of you at 55, but am a young grandma with 6 grandchildren that I want to enjoy and be there for. My 6 yr old grandson's biggest concern about the gastric sleeve is that I might lose my "fluffy arms" that I cuddle him with....lol

I look forward to getting to know each of you and provide whatever support I can give.

I was a very low BMI when I started. I am 5'8" and started at 198 pounds, my surgery was May 2013 so it's been six months for me. I have never had a stall or slow down in weight loss. I am getting worried now because I am getting way too skinny. My weight is now at 136 and I am in a size one. My bones stick out everywhere and people always ask me if I am sick. Mt doctor says its time to stop losing, but I can't control it. I eat all the time and I eat all kinds of junk food to try and up my calories. Don't get me wrong I love being skinny, but I guess you have to be careful what you wish for.

I'm glad to be reading your experiences. I have my first surgical consult in four days! Sooooooo excited to get the ball rolling. I'm also nervous though because when I first asked if the surgeon would consider me, I thought my BMI was 33 (we don't have a scale, so I was estimating). We'll my sons' pediatrician was running an hour late, and there was a scale right outside the room, so I hopped on while we waited. Turns out my BMI is 32. Obviously since I'm in Utah I'm self pay, so I'm crossing my fingers the lower BMI doesn't make a difference. Fingers crossed!

(My husband is adamant about the no Mexico thing. No matter how many people have success there, he won't belief it's safe)
