I'm new here and as yet I haven't got a date for surgery or anything remotely like that, but I'm getting things into place for it. I'm in Sydney, and my specialist is giving me a referral to see Dr David Martin (I don't have it yet as I had to go home and research my options and discuss it with my husband). I've started with HCF specifically to cover the surgery in about a year's time.

I'm really interested in reading other's experiences here and I look forward to getting to know you all

Welcome! I'm coming up to 12 months in Nov for my sleeve! I had a lap band for 5 years which worked for the first 3. Wish I hadve got the sleeve done before! It's fantastic, I can't say I have any regrets to be honest.

My sister got the lap band last year and I worry now that she made the wrong choice (or was given the wrong advice). she's had a bit of problem with eating with it. Anyway, she has been losing weight (ot sure exactly how much as she's interstate and we don't go into details of weight in our phone calls!) - I hope it works for her.

I had Dr Martin as my surgeon. Had no complications from the surgery, and the staff are lovely and supportive. I had the operation at Strathfield Private, and am also in HCF. Was very pleased all round. Had my surgery in September 2011.

Hi there. Welcome to the sleeve community. I was sleeved on 31/1/12 and have only had minor probs since the op. If I had known about it before I would hgave had it done years ago. Good luck. xxxcoralxxx

I went to see the doctor re a band, then learnt other options like the sleeve. I went to a couple of meetings for new people considering surgery and majority had been banded, some years, some months. But, to me they weren't a great advertisement for banders, still quite overweight and most had had some complications from the band.
Go the sleeve, it is a winner.

I took out insurance with hcf for the same reason. My Heath fund anniversary was on the 28th of October and I was booked in on the 29th October. I did hate waiting the year so glad that you've made that first step. Good luck
