Any one else get a Fatty Liver after surgery?

Rate this Entry
I got my surgery jan 30th, got a bunch of blood test before surgery, no elevated liver enzymes in my blood, a few months after, my reg. doc ran some blood tests found they were SUPER High, I got an ultra sound said they couldn't be sure It was a fatty liver, and I needed a CT scan, got the ct scan done today, doctor keeps saying its nothing to worry about and its nothing, but i read a lot online that its just diagnosed with an ultra sound, and cirrhosis you need a CT scan, i don't think I got cirrhosis that fast, (i was a drug abuse for a long time) but when I ask him what it means if I have a fatty liver he won't tell me anything he like beats around the bush, so I guess ill find out after the next few days the results..
but has anyone else gotten a fatty liver after surgery?

I read its from rapid weight loss, and obesity you get it, and the only way to get rid of it is to loose weight slow,

    Hello Tori,

I was diag with fatty liver b4 I had the surgery and actually LOT of ppl have it. I don't know what to say about the drug abuse but was also told not to worry about it. Even skinny ppl have it.
It's just eating bad foods, fried, etc...

    Go luck!

Fatty liver only means you have fat around your liver they did a CT to rule out cirrhosis. Usually you get cirrhosis from alcohol abuse, heroin. my liver enzymes were up from medication I was taking doc put me on a low fat/fat free diet they need to get to the bottom of the enzymes now that all the other tests are done

Hi Tori712. My name is Linda. I'm going to have my surgery on the 21st. I have had a fatty liver for the past 2 years. I am told that this will go away with the surgery. From last year to this year, my liver enlarged. I don't know why I had it as such to begin with. I guess due to my high BMI and I also believe to have a lot of bad fat in my body anyway. Maybe it's in my head and has nothing to do with my liver, but that's what i keep telling myself. Hopefully this will go away with the surgery. I'm hoping you had the fatty liver before your surgery and they just failed to notice it. Wishing you well from Texas!!

I had it before surgery too, my levels have improved since surgery. M liver specialist said my NASH could get better or worse right after surgery but it would eventually get better once the weight loss levels off. Vitamin E has been shown to help too

Thats a big part of why im having the surgery... To shrink my liver.. A fatty liver can lead to many long term problems. My reg doc and my surgeon say the sleeve will fix it.
