Here is a few few examples of what I asked:
- is there an ICU in the hospital
- how many surgeries he performed and how many complications he had
- the size of the bougie he is going to use
- stiches or glue for the incisions?
- stiches over the staples?
- questions about pre-op diet and how much to lose before surgery etc..

The questions that Sandra has brought up are good ones. I asked about pain meds and if I would have a prescription before I had surgery (yes)-- just to be prepared. Luckily I never needed any pain meds at the hospital OR at home.) I wish I had known to ask if there were 'hidden fees' (which my surgeon sprung on me 1 1/2 weeks before my surgery.... even though I had insurance I was using.) He wanted upfront money....

Also ask about your hospital stay. Some require longer than others. Ask about what follow up care that is provided. Any local support group meetings.
