Milestones and other fun stuff!

Rate this Entry
So it has FINALLY happened! I hit the 30 lb weight loss since surgery (I lost weight pre surgery so my total weight loss is 50). I am so excited about this. Especially since it is my time of month which used to always be accompanied by a temporary weight gain of a few pounds. My weight loss has slowed but I am still steadily losing so I am okay with that. I already knew I would drop a little slower and not to compare myself to others. But hitting this milestone was a mixture of excitement and relief.

Today is also the day I take my measurements. I have lost a lot of inches since surgery. I kind of regret not taking my measurements before losing the 20 lbs during pre op dieting. Oh well. So to date since my surgery 9.5 weeks ago I have lost 7 inches off of my waist, 5 off my booty, 1.5 off my bicep (I really need to step up my weight training with my arms), 5 off of my bust, and 5 off my thighs (I have big legs). I am extremely happy with all of this. Especially with my thighs since I have big legs and I feel like they are looking pretty good. I am definitely going to continue strength training and hoping I won't need skin surgery on my thighs.

Also started my week 2 of the C25K program. It was so cold this morning but I bundled up and off we went. Felt great. This week it is a 5 minute warm up, then running for 90 seconds followed by walking for 2 minutes for a total of 21 minutes, and then the 5 minute cool down. So far no difficulties with the program. I had a little soreness the first week but not enough to make me not run. I just used some icy hot and a heating pad on my sore muscles. This week so far no soreness.

My new eating lifestyle is still going well. Not really tempted by any foods. Still eating low carb with really no issues. If I really want a taste of something I will allow myself a very small bite. Nothing that is going to kill my calorie intake or what not.

Congrats on your weight loss! and your exercise program! you are doing great!
We all have different ways of losing weight, and you're right, it's better not to compare to others.
But actually in your case, because your sister was successful, it's a very good indication of what can be your future. Apparently when a sibling or parent is successful with bariatric surgery you have a higher chance of success yourself! STudies don't lie!! that's very good for you!

Enjoy those first months with a big restriction. For me it did change around month 6/7 and I went from being able to eat 1/2 cup to one cup. My nut actually was telling me that's what I was supposed to eat anyway, but that's also when my weight loss started to slow...indeed the closer you get from goal, the harder it is to lose, but it feels that's I'm still far ...I just can't wait to be able to exercise more! But I'm dealing with one injury after the other...I do feel so much better, I just wished it was helping my fitness level ;-)

So funny Christie13, I am 10 weeks out and just today hit the 30 lb. mark! Congratulations to you on the running program. No way will I ever do that, but I am hitting the gym a couple of times a week to keep things moving. I am planning to start with a personal trainer so that my work outs become a little more intense as I am way too easy on myself, but at the same time I have knee issues so I don't want to get hurt. It's fun for me to watch your progress and try to keep up with you, even though I know our journeys are all individual. Keep up the good work!

I didn't know that about a relative being successful as an indicator of my success. I figured that since she and I are very different (body shape wise) that it would just depend on how I worked the sleeve. I do feel blessed to have seen her go through this and know the results it can yield.

I also know that eventually I will be able to eat more but right now it does seem like such a far away thing. I have noticed I can drink more than I was able to in the beginning but just certain things. I can drink green tea (warm or cold) and shakes much quicker but water is still slow going. How weird is that??

I am glad that I am taking up the running now so when the weight loss gets slow I can start to run faster and longer. My long term goal is a half marathon by December 2017!! Wish me luck because that is a lot of running! LOL. I am confident that as long as I don't get injured I will succeed at that goal! I have all year to get there!

Sorry to hear about your injuries. Always better to ensure they are completely healed before getting back at it. Have you tried yoga or swimming? Those can be challenging but a lot nicer to your body.

Congrats to you too Jamma! I sometimes think I am going so much slower than other people but it is probably because the people with the huge weight loss numbers are the ones that stick out in our heads. I also have noticed that I lose better when I am getting all my protein in.

How much can you eat now? I am still eating what I feel is relatively small amounts. Definitely no more than 2.5 ounces...unless I take 2 hours to eat.

A personal trainer can definitely help you. Make sure you advise him/her of your knee issues. Do you like to swim? Or do water aerobics? How about yoga. Another thing that is amazing is Pilates. I used to love doing that. It can really tone up your whole body.

Christie, you are doing a great job! Congratulations! I measured the day after my 1st nutrition class and hid the paper away for only my eyes to see! It's mortifying to see those numbers. I'm anxious for my time to come.

Good luck for the half marathon!

Drinking water can be an issue for many people. It was always easier for me to drink something with substance (green tea or herbal tea mainly). AT first I couldn't even drink plain water, it had to be mixed with juice (surgeon orders). Then around month 3 iced cold water only. Today I'm fine, but room temperature is never going down easy. I still prefer when it's cold.

I did yoga for years and swimming is complicated right now. We had a pool in our house before but not anymore. I'm planning on going back to the pool when we move in a few months. But right now even yoga is painful.

Somewhere it's like after 20 years of abuse my body can't take it anymore. It's one thing after an other. My ankle gets better then my knee is awful...

I'm planning on finding a good specialist when we move. May be a doctor specialized in sport injuries could help, but at least PT will help too. I just have to be patient...and try new things. I did increase my omegas and it seems to help a little...

It is amazing to me how water is hard. I mean, it is a liquid. No different than the others but for some reason so hard to go down. It is getting better but still weird. At least drinking my iced green tea I know I am getting in more liquids. That is always a worry for me that I will get dehydrated, especially since I am exercising.
I hope you are able to find some relief for your injuries. That has got to be rough to not be able to do things and be sore.
