February 24th Is The Day!

Anyone Get An Infection Several Months After Surgery?????????

Rate this Entry
So I know this is a strange question but has anybody on here ever had or ever heard of someone getting an infection most likely bacterial several months after surgery. I have posted about this before but I had a tooth infection December 27th, had it pulled, got another one then root canal, then bronchitis. During this time I've had low grade fevers every day except for the few times when I was on an antibiotic.

I have had cat scans done everywhere, blood tests (a million of them) so I know it's not Lyme. I am working with an Infectious Disease Dr. etc.. They have been extremely thorough but still getting fevers and feeling like crap. They put me on intravenous antibiotics also but I was still getting fevers while on that so they took it out. I am going to see an auto immune disease specialist soon as well.

Here's my real question, my Mom just read an article to me about Medical Tourism especially in the Dominican, I had mine in Tiajuana. Anyway they are finding more and more people are coming back with these mysterious illnesses such as low grade fevers and it looks like these women had contracted some sort of bacterial infection while they were there getting surgery. Some had boobs done others tummy tucks etc., it did not state the sleeve though. The article stated it could be contracted by something as simple as the water when you shower etc. etc.

PLEASE don't think I am trying to scare anyone because I'm not but after almost 7 months of this and no answers from the Drs. I am desperate to see if there might be a connection. My surgery was March 24th, 2015 so that's almost 16 months ago and I was fine at my 7 month anniversary but I'm wondering if maybe I did pick up a bacteria and it went dormant for those 7 months and came to light once I had the tooth pulled.

Of course the Infectious Disease Dr. just left for a one month vacation to India and I hadn't pushed this issue because my Mom just read the article to me yesterday. All this time I have been banking on the cause of this stemming from the tooth but maybe I am wrong. Please if anyone knows of a similar case or has had this themselves I really need to hear what you did or how they fixed it.

Of course I am going to bring this up at my next appointment on Aug. 15th but now I can't stop thinking about it. I may even call her office on Monday and speak to one of her partners and see what they have to say.

I hope everyone is doing great and thanks for reading!

My sister in law (she hasn't been out of country or had the sleeve) was having bronchitis over and over and having low grade fevers when she wasn't I'll. To make a long story short they found she has sarcoidosis. Have they checked for that.

I had a infection a month after, I think I got it from the cathetor, urinary infection. But could this be that zika thing that has been on the news? Have u had an endoscopy to check your stomach make sure there is no leak or infection?

One other idea? Mononucleosis? It makes you very tired, sticks with you forever and you run a high fever?

I had an infection once from a surgery 4 YEARS prior. But in your case there is likely an infection someplace and it's landing in different spots sounds like.

Hey Donna, I don't think they have tested for that but I will definitely ask, thanks for taking the time to answer I appreciate it!

I agree, it seems like it moves from one area to another and that's why they can't pinpoint it. Thanks so much for your response I really do appreciate it!

No it's not the Zika virus but I think they tested for mono but I'm going to double check. Thanks for taking the time to respond I really appreciate it!

Did you have your vitamin level checked? For me, a few years back, I was having some major lungs issues (I have asthma since childhood) but that was much worth that usual. Tow rounds of antibiotics didn't work on pneumonia. I decided to go see an other specialist and that's the first thing she did, check my vitamin level. I was very low in D and B12. As soon as my level improved, the antibiotics (third round!) finally worked: my infection was gone in a few days!!
Right now I also have low vitamin D level, taking indeed supplements, but my level was really low and my doc said it could take up to two months to improve ...I got a cold that my daughter had for 3 days, for me it's been one week and it's much worth...I know it's because of my D level..

I know my son got a horribly infected knee a month or more after a bad skateboard fall. By then the wound had totally healed. He ended up in the hospital. You're seeing a doctor, right?

Hi Sandra, Yes they checked all of that, my PCP is very thorough about my blood work due to the sleeve. It's a mystery and it's not fun at all, the not knowing is almost worse than the fevers. I just wish one of these specialists would say you have XYZ and fix it already. Thanks for your response!
