Depressed

Rate this Entry
I was sleeved in 2012 and was doing great but recently I've gained 30lbs because of bad food choices. I need to get back to the basics. It's so hard it feels like trying to lose weight before surgery. Am I the only one who feels this way. HELP!!

Hi, I know exactly how you feel . I just got the sleeve December 7 2015. My previous post op visit was on 12/22/15 my weight was 203.4.... and right now I'm down to 200.8.....I know it's because I eat late and I've eaten Lil wrong. So I called my doctor's office I was told to make sure I get my protein ,drink water, and exercise . I was also told because I had the lab band removed and the gastric sleeve was performed it might take me Lil longer. Just remember we are all humans and fall off track but it's the end result we should look forward to. Good luck as I know I need it too

It is just as hard emotionally and trigger food wise after the first 18 mo or so as it was before surgery. The one thing you can fall back on is to use your sleeve as a tool. Eat your protein first, good dense stuff, steak, hmbg pattie, chicken, eggs.. fill up on them and there's no room for quite some time for the junk. Also there is a trick for when your sleeve is mature. It is to drink a lot of water 15 min before you eat (the opposite of the post surgical recommendation).. the idea is to be sure your thirst is really slaked before eating. Then eat your dense protein and some veggies and don't drink. It will take hours to digest and the water will be there to quench your body's thirst. I dropped 118 lbs in 9 mo, got sick and depressed over the loose skin, regained 54 lbs... only finally started to drop again nearly 4 yrs after surgery, and am now dropping 3 lbs a month average, have dropped 18 of the 54 lbs. It's hard but you just find what works for you, and remember it just may not be what worked just post sleeve. Sleeve magic only lasts so long, then it's sleeve science you have to work with.. it's still a small space. Fill it with something it has to work to eat and that's half the battle.

It is wonderful to see you here again, Grace. I wondered how you were doing. I have just gained 10 lbs over the holidays, actually since September when I returned to school and sit so much. I am getting back to the low carb diet that was so successful before. Your advice is spot-on, and I wouldn't add a thing.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I eat when I'm not hungry. I tried the 5 day pouch test I was starved I couldn't even do it a half a day. I need to get back to the dense meats the only bad thing is sometimes it doesn't sit right on my stomach even if I chew and eat slow. I started exersicing 3 times this week so I am happy about that. I've been doing an app called LOSE IT! Sometimes I'm eating 2,000 calories because eating junk but I like seeing it even if I eat bad because it becomes reality to me. It's so hard but I can do it. I think being on this website and talking to people will keep me movtivated as well.

    Hello,
I would throw away all the junk and bad foods I have and replace them with healthier choices. You know out of sight out of mind.. U may have hit a bump in the road but who hasn't. We have to think positive for positive results . I know this is hard because I suffer from depression when I wake up each morning I Thank God for another day that I get to start over and make that day better that yesterday. Believe me it's hard but you have people cheering for you and I believe this shall pass. U have come so far.You give me hope because you have lost weight and asking for help because life happens ..Now I will confess I hate drinking water but it actually gets you full .Best of luck . YOU GOT THIS

Any grocery store or CVS/Rite Aid type store has them in the vitamin section, or of course Amazon.... Hope they help! I can't eat protein without them...
