Starting Over

What a difference a year can make.

I have totally gotten away from diet and exercise....resulting in gaining back quite a bit of the weight I lost in my first year after sleeve surgery. I wont waste anyones time by blaming it on anything except laziness on my part.

Surgery was Aug 12, 2012. I lost 105 pounds that first year.
June 8, 2013 my whole world changed. My husband and I separated, I closed my business and moved to Ohio.
Since then, most everything else in my life has gotten far better than it has been for many many years. I started dating & living with a man that I have fallen madly in love with andI have a new business in the antique world.
I had joined a local gym and started working with a personal trainer. I even ran in my first 5K last December!
And then....I started having issues with my back and my right knee. I went to both my general physician and to an Ortho specialist. I have spinal stenosis, which I will pretty much deal with the rest of my life. That pain comes and goes. But my knee....is totally shot....gives out on me quite a bit. Ive fallen several times due to it so I was "grounded" from the gym a couple months ago until after my knee replacement here in a few weeks.
I preferred exercising at the gym because I could concentrate on my workout....at home, I end up getting distracted by housework or something else (no ones fault but my own). So, yeah, I stopped exercising completely and diet.....what diet? I stopped keeping a food log, stopped taking measurements and stopped stepping on the scale. I am doing everything wrong....and I know it.
So why am I writing this now? I need a kick in the ass! I go see my Dr on Wednesday and plan on asking for a dietician referral. I HAVE to start my food journal, weight & measurements on myfitnesspal.com again and I NEED to find a local support group or start one! No excuses...I HAVE to exercise!

Has anyone else out there been going through a complete start over? Im open to suggestions.

Yes ma'am I completely started over too. Now I just had my surgery yesterday so I haven't started the weight loss process with the sleeve but last year thing were out of control for me to from personally to financially. I broke up with my non-supportive boyfriend and did a complete "makeover" in every area. The only suggestion I have is to do what you know is successful for you. You've already done it before so just jump right back into your workout routine. Stay strong!

I needed to see this post today so THANK YOU. I literally before logging on here just told my fiancé, " I have 3 lbs that I want to lose before my 1 year surgery anniversary and ive been slacking so bad lately. Its time to get back to the plan. NO EXCUSES"
My soon to be THREE stepdaughters are here for the summer and so I have SIX people living in my house. FOUR kids when im used to ONE. Its quite a difference for me and I have found absolutely no time to work out (I work out at home) except a couple times. I know that's an excuse but its just been hard. So today im done with the excuses. Time to get back to the routine and shed these last few pounds that I need to lose.
Good luck to you and thank you for making me realize im not alone with my feelings!

Starting over too. We can do this . I find really watching the clock and not eating before 3 hours after my last meal is my best tool, but I've got to want to do it.

I'm one year post-op. I haven't gained any weight back but I have been losing only about 1lb/month since a few months ago. I still want to lose another 20-25 lbs. I have been lazy and also not keeping track of my diet. I have some good days but I have been having a lot more frequent bad days and that scares me. Thank you for your post! I like the fact that you're not making excuses for yourself (except for your valid medical reasons)...you know what you need to do. You can do this! Keep us posted on how you're doing...best of luck to you! And...congrats on starting your life over...that's very brave!

I think we will always travel that slippery slope and you are wise to recognize where you are. Congrats to you for seeing it and taking action before it becomes totally out of control. You have your sleeve to help you...you know what to do. We are all here for you!

Thank you for your courage and honesty! This is a great reminder that the surgery is just a tool to get us kick started and it is completely up to us to make it a success. The day of surgery began a lifelong journey of always choosing your health over everything else. Start taking small steps to get yourself back on track and before you know it the weight you gained back will be gone. Best of luck!
