Guidance

Rate this Entry
I've seen a lot of posts from members that don't seem to have any guidance of what to do post-op and I'm concerned for them, and also for the hospital. This doesn't seem to be a comprehensive program for the patients, or very informative.

Because I've not been anywhere else but Hopkins, I'm not sure what the other programs do for you. At Hopkins you receive a folder that outlines all of your post-op instructions including what to eat, and when you're allowed. Liquid, Puree, Soft Foods, Reg Foods etc....

I can scan and upload these to share if helpful to others......please email me and I'll send to you.

This has been such a great experience for me and would hate to see others become discouraged.

I hear exactly what you are saying. I did the same thing on my previous post from my hospital here in Dallas. So many people are like "what do I eat on day 3?".

At first I was ticked, then I was scared for those people-

I know exactly what you mean. I wonder how many were or were not given a folder and just didnt read it. I was given a folder on the whole procedure and then I was given a 20 question test the next week on what was in the folder. It was a way to make sure that I atleast read the information. All the information in the world will not help IF we dont apply what we learn.

I do not know where they have had their surg. i had mine with Almanza and i had almost a book of what to do and when. Water, protein, carbs, fruits & veg etc. i think that sometimes it is just overwellming when you are new and trying to juggle water and food. We can never have enough info and it is good of you to offer to share yours. That is how and why this site works. Cheers

Thanks so much for the link! That was very helpful. I got quite a bit of information from my surgeon but I don't believe you can have too much knowledge. Great info!!

I am a bit of an internet junkie, and that doc is the best one I've seen on the internet. Very thorough and well laid out.

I went to my 2nd support group meeting tonight. We went through everything in details for before and after the surgery and so did the NUT at our second meeting. I can't believe that there are places that won't give you all this information.

Thats so sweet of you! I was given a pretty thick booklet that included required vitamins, stages of eating etc. Three meetings with the NUT and a 3hour class with test. All information is helpful and I've found from being here you get great tips!
