In a little over a month, I'll be one year since my sleeve surgery. So many things have changed for me. Even though at the start I felt like I'd made a huge mistake, today I am very much thankful for this journey and for the fact I was lucky enough to be able to have this procedure.
Though I still struggle with consistent weight loss, overall I've lost 103 lbs from my highest ever weight. And for that I am truly thankful. I still have a way to go but know now that it IS possible if I work for it. I can't always rely on my sleeve make it happen for me.
One thing I never thought possible is my new love for working out. Don't get me wrong, I still HATE sweating. Like, A LOT. But I am able to do more now than I ever thought possible. Like run a 5K. Participate in the Special Olympics Relay Torch Run...and even compete in the North Carolina Warrior Dash. If you knew me a year ago, you'd be laughing your butt off at me even thinking about doing any one of those things...but here is the proof!
I am so much happier now. I know food will always be a struggle for me. But I feel so much more prepared to face the challenge than ever before. And I never, EVER want to go back to this:
