Default A question for the ladies....

And hello to all the men that just clicked on here to see this secret women's business... :-) You're going to wish you hadn't now!

Have any of you lovely ladies had any issues with your periods since having your sleeve? Mine have become wickedly irregular, then when they do come, they are very heavy and last an abnormally long time. Going back onto the Pill isn't helping, I've had to get a strong drug from my doctor to stop the bleeding. The irony is, I had my tubes tied when I had my sleeve, to get off hormonal contraception!

I've just had an ultrasound, and I don't have fibroids (hooray! My mum and sis both did, so I thought do too). It might be related to my pituitary gland and my rapid weight loss, my doctor said before my u/sound.

Any of you have any experience of this? With such a rapid loss, I would've thought my periods would've disappeared rather than got heavier. No such luck! I'm 40, by the way, so I don't think its menopausal or anything. What is going on?! :-)

the day after i had my surgery i started my period and it was one week early this month it was two weeks early and it seems to be a little heavier than normal so i would say it is probably the rapid weight loss thing messing with our hormones my NUT told me estrogen is stored in your fat cells and when you loose them fat cells you release estrogen into the body and at a rapid rate this can mess with hormones
    start of my journey 341lbs.
    post pre op diet 320lbs.

My doc and nut told me that my periods would be off for awhile and heavy. I also started the day after surgery (a week earlier than I should have) and was the heaviest flow I ever had. Im only 3 weeks post op so I haven't had another one yet but hope it gets back on track and regular. Sorry if it's TMI for some of you fellas!

I had previously been on the depo shot which stops my period completely. I stopped getting them when I decided to have the surgery last June and lucky me I started my first period the day after my surgery in November. It was very light but I had spotting for about 2 weeks. Haven't had one since but my issues are probably just related to coming off the depo.

I haven't had my surgery yet so can't comment on that but I did have my tubes tied when I had my latest munchkin and that messed me up for a while. Like, a year and a half. I had a friend who had the same thing happen to her. For some reason sometimes the tubal will make your hormones fluctuate and that will totally throw your cycle off. It really did take me about 18 months to get back to somewhat regular and even now (6 months later) my periods are heavier than they were before. My friend is further out from me, she had her tubal 3 years ago and she is still very irregular with heavy periods. She has been seeing her doctor and one of the options they gave her to try and fix it was a reversal! (No, thank you!)

Anyway, I just bring this up because you said you got your tubes tied when you had your sleeve done so while it could be your rapid weight loss that is affecting your periods, it could also just be from the tubal. Or from both. Or from neither...I'm a lot of help, huh? ;p

Actually, you're a huge help :-) You all are, in fact. My doctor mentioned the weight loss affecting the pituitary gland (which releases hormones) as a possibility too; I'm trying to research that online too. Very interesting about the tubal though, I would never have thought of that.

So, it could be 1) Depo shot, 2) tubal ligation, or 3) pituitary gland. Bring on the menopause!!! :-)
