Lump feeling in throat? Stuck feeling? What is it?

I am well versed in the lap band and its effects on my esophagus; however, this lump feeling in the throat is new. What's the cause of it? I'm sure others have had the same feeling. Sometimes it's really annoying.

(FYI, I am eight weeks post surgery)

My lump after Gastric Sleeve was acid and it took going on Prilosec OTC (double the normal dose) to get it to go away. It was kind of this lump I wanted to belch away.

Thanks for the tip. I have been having the same sensation and it's really annoying. It feels like a great big belch that wants to come out but never does. I am taking an acid reducer but not as strong as Prilosec. I need to switch.

Same with me, not all the time but frequent! I go to my surgeon February 18 to see what he says.

I have that too.......and often! It's a terrible feeling and I hate it! I especially get it after eating. I take Prilosec every morning but still get it. I don't see my surgeon again for a few weeks but I'm going to ask him about it. It's weird because it doesn't feel like it would be acid. I never had it before surgery so I'm bummed to have it now.

I got the lump about 3 weeks after surgery and it was driving me nuts. I finally started taking double the dose of Prilosec OTC (for a week I actually quadrupled it) and then I also started taking maximum strength Zantac like 1-2 per day. It went away. I stopped taking Prilosec, and was trying to get by just on the Zantac, and the lump came back. After consulting with my PCP, I now take 2 Prilosec OTC at bed time and a Zantac mid-day and it is under control but if you Google the PPI's (Prilosec, Prevacid, etc.).

I need to try as I get the same feeling along with a unpleasant taste in my mouth but it doesn't seem like acid. Thanks for the tip.

My doctor says the acid reflux is the #1 complaint after the sleeve so I think John is giving good advice to try. I have been taking a PPI first thing ever morning since surgery and don't have that problem. My Rx is running out so I am going to see how it goes without. At first sign I will call for another Rx.

I only get the lump feeling once or twice a week. I no longer have heart burn like I did with the sleeve, but I did have my first real bout with GERD on Saturday night. I went to see a musical in L.A. and I drank two glasses of red wine. I think the red wine triggered the reaction. The reflux actually woke me up. The lump feeling is usually after I eat something more solid like chicken. It also goes on for about three hours after I eat--long after I expect it to go away. I have not started taking any meds for reflux. The doc gave me pepcid, but I am not even sure what that is for. It wasn't until I had the wine this week that I started having any issues.
