    Default newbie

    Hi,

I'm due to have sleeve surgery 21st April 2011. Starting to get pretty nervous but have been obese my entire life & must have gained & lost the entire weight of a football team over the years - ok, that's a slight exaggeration
Had a lot of different health problems in my life & trying to focus on the positives of the surgery instead of how enormous a change it will be to cope with. Drs have been recommending surgery for me since I was 14 (now 28) & feel like this is a surgery that suits me.

Visiting this site to see how others a managing & how the weight loss is going.

    Welcome!

My husband just had his done yesterday, so I can't comment on personal experience yet. But I do know that many here have had great success in a relatively short time.

    Hi Newbie

I had the surgery two and a half weeks ago. Its probably the best thing i've ever done for myself. for sure, I have a different relationship with food than I used to, but food was not my friend. I am encouraged as I see myself getting better each day. I'm looking forward to being a thinner, healthier person. I liked myself before surgery, so I guess I'll just be able to do more. I wish you well,

    Michael.

Hi Prillbaby, and welcome to our website! You will find a lot of good company and support here. I agree with Michael, it is probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I am now 3 1/2 weeks out of surgery...so a week ahead of Michael I guess. I'm eating pretty normal type foods now, just in small amounts. Haven't moved to steaks and pork chops, and I know I'll have to wait a while on those. But yes, it's a different relationship. I now eat to live instead of live to eat! Best wishes to you!
    Diane

I agree with Diane. I would add that while I don't live to eat, I do enjoy the tastes of foods I like. The good news is that once you can tolerate solid food, while you cant eat everything, theres still so much you can eat and enjoy, just in smaller doses; but it takes you longer to eat them, so its almost like having more. There is enjoyment of food after this surgery. You just need to listen to your body, and be careful not to overdo it. I enjoy what I eat, but i don't want anything that will make me feel sick.

The issue is what you can tolerate, and respecting your portion size. you will enjoy your food, feel good, and be healthier.

    Have a great New Year.

    Michael

Hey prillbaby. I am today three weeks from surgery. I have lost 19 lbs. I am still on creamy soups, yogart mostly. Today I had my first saltine cracker. I tried scrambled eggs got very nauseated. After a few attempts to move up with foods have decided to just take it easy.

I believe it was the best thing I could have done for me.

    Welcome Prillbaby,

Hope this year will be the start of your new life to come.

I am also hoping to be sleeved early this year. Seeing my doctor on the 25 Jan 2011 for my first appointment after going to his info night.

I have only been on this sight for about a week, and I couldn't have chosen a better, supportive site ever!!!! I have been on a couple of others but the interaction isn't as good as this one. I am sure you fill find the information and support on this site.

Take care and well done for making the choice to make a change in you life.
