    Default Christmas???

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong part of the forum... I wasn't sure where to put it.

My husband is having his surgery on the 29th of this month! While I'm excited for him and nervous at the same time, this also presents a completely unique challenge: what in the world can I get him for Christmas??? He doesn't want anything clothing related since anything he can wear now will be useless in a few months, and anything he can wear in a few months will be useless until then... obviously I need to steer clear of anything food related... Our receiver is needing to be sent off for repair, so I really can't buy him any new movies, since he wouldn't be able to enjoy them for a while afterwards. He gave me a couple of practical ideas, but they had the feel of "I'm just telling you this because it's a sensible way to spend our money."

That would be fine, except that he never buys me practical gifts; any gift he buys me is meant to spoil me as well as he can, even though I keep reminding him I don't need to be spoiled.

If you were going to be preparing to have surgery days after Christmas, what kind of gifts would you have wanted the most?

A month before my surgery o went and bought a pair of jeans that were to small for me, because it's going to be exciting when I can fit in them and it gave me an incentive and something to look forward too.

His favorite cologne is always a good choice, hopefully his fave is your fave too! LoL. I also like the jeans Idea. Maybe a nice comfy pair of tennis shoes, for working out in. Along with some light weights maybe an mp3 player to listen too while he is working out. I think anything to do with working out would be a good and practiacal choice. You could even opt for a Itouch if he doenst have an iphone already. He can watch movies on it, surf the web, listen to music. He could use it while working out or just hanging out. (You have to be in a wifi hot spot to use the internet though) If you go that route I can tell you a site that will allow you to download tons of movies either on to your computer or even straight to you Iphone/Itouch. If you have AT&T I'd opt for the iphone personally. Hope I gave you some good ideas. Congrats to your husband!

Thanks so much everyone! I don't know how I'd be keeping my sanity right now without this forum... I may not be posting much, but just being able to read your responses to the few threads I have started, as well as the other threads, is really helping me to wrap my brain around what's going on and not let my nerves get the better of me. I hate to admit it, but the worry wart in me tends to come out in medical situations... especially where overnight hospital stays are concerned.

How about something exercise related? A bike maybe two so you can go with him? Gym membership? If you have a LA Fitness in your area a membership includes a thing that the member can bring up to two friends each visit free without limits.

How about a comfy new robe? And an electric blanket or throw? Trust me, he's going to feel cold when he's taking in fewer calories. If you have the money and don't have one yet, how about a recliner? It's much more comfortable to relax and to sleep in a recliner for the first several days after surgery. I have been living in my PJ's and robe until about Noon every day, and every time I sit down to watch TV, I'm in the recliner with the electric throw tucked in all around me.

That is so true, Diane! I freeze to death all the time and didn't realize that is why until you mentioned the fewer calories. I sleep with the electric blanket on high all the time. Thanks for answering that question.

A gift card for a clothing store for when he is ready to buy some great new clothes (that's what I asked for). A loofah and some good skin lotion to help his skin as he loses weight, a cozy blanket (if he's like most of us, he will be cold!), some warm slippers, a good book, or magazine subscription so he has something to read while recovering the first while, a recipe book for great smoothies. Hope that helps. Merry Christmas
