The 'what meals' was my question, too. Mu surgeon said to shoot the Prevacid 1st thing in the morning and right before bed.
I just knock those little suckers back like a shot of tequila!!

either I'm doing better with less liquid before bed ... OR ... Zantac has saved my life!
No reflux during sleep for the last 2 nights, since I started taking the Zantac before bed.
Had to take a second one the first night, but yesterday, no troubles... even took a nap without trouble or meds...
a week post op today, so guess it's all just getting better!

This is very common after the surgery even on only clear liquids. Has nothing to do with diet this soon out but the stomach is making acid and nothing there for it to digest. I had antacid medications in my IV in the hospital and went home with a prescription. Still eat a couple of Tums with calicum if I start to feel hungry and its not a meal time. Turns off that drive to eat something.
Gina,
Definitely give the omeprazole a chance to work. It is one of my favs for reflux. 3-4 times a day is a pretty hefty dose though so if you don't get great results try a different med. That is why there are so many different meds for the same problems. We all have different receptor cells and what works for many may not work for all. Try and try again. You may be best served right now by taking a fast acting med like tums or maalox and the longer lasting med until you receive some of the benefits. Good luck!! I hate reflux!!

Gina I swear by chewable papaya enzyme tablets....all natural and they rule. Available at any pharmacy or grocery store, just be sure to get chewable.

I'm starting to get really bad acid reflux now. Eugenia you're only 5 days post op and eat whole foods already?! WOW! I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks. You're already eating cheese, crackers, and yogurt. Your Dr is OK with that?
Does anyone know if we can take Zantac and chew a few tums together? I'm wondering if I should wait between the 2? Not trying to hijack just asking since we're on this subject. Thanks!
LT, I take Prilosec and sometimes a chewable form of Pepcid but be careful about taking the 2 together. I'm actually trying to wean off my Prilosec, etc. right now.
Nothing worked for me at night accept one little pill called Aciphex, it is a miracle pill to me. You take it at night before bed and it is slow realease and works through the night.
KApidex is the best med on the market for Reflux. I think they might have changed the name? I got a card form the drug company that makes my scrip free each month. The horrible reflux that I have had the last 5 years since being banded is unbearabe at times. This is the reason that the insurance coverd my conversion which is scheduled for 11/9. I have tried them all and this is the only medicine that has giving me any help at all. It also repairs the damage being done by the refulx at the same time. I promise you will not be diappointed with this script.
