I read where many have had their galbladders removed at the same time as getting sleeved. Pardon my ignorance but why is that?
Hi,
That's only if necessary, for instance if the doctor discovered you had gallbladder stones. If you didn't have any then it would not be necessary to remove it.
I didn't have mine removed.
That's how it works.
Hope this helps!
Happy new year!
I had my gallbladder removed 8 years ago, so it was not an issue for me. But eight years ago I was having gallbladder attacks because I had so many gallstones. Many overweight women experience this problem, especially approaching middle age, and I have read that it can become worse after bariatric surgery. So I think the doctors check your gallbladder (ultrasound is all it takes) to see if you have them, and if so, do it as part of your sleeve operation. It's a two-fer deal!
My husband's surgeon always checks his patient's gallbladder to see if it needs to be removed. Oftentimes he will go ahead and remove it if he can get to it easily (everyone's anatomy is a little different) and / or if he has reason to think it necessary. He didn't touch my husband's gallbladder.
I had my gallbladder removed with my surgery, they actually moved my surgery date up because i ended up in the hospital with gallstones. I was told you can live life with no problem with out a gallbladder, and when u have rapid weight loss or go up and down alot in weight it can effect your gallbladder and cause this problem, thats why most doctors check to see if you have gallstones before they do your surgery so that if you do, they can remove it at the same time.
I had my removed a yr ago i was having horrible stomach pains for some years and didnt know what was going on for sure, i went the er one night i felt like i was about to pass out, and black out they actually rolled me in wheel chair to back but it was emergency removal, it still hurts in that area sometimes but like they said if you not having problems with it, no need to worry about it.
HI, Gall bladders have this need, that they have to pay you back. Years ago I had lost 22 kilos, and my Gall bladder paid me back with 8 tiny gallstones. Talk about hell, I would rather give birth. My advice? if your Dr wants it, LET HIM HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers
