Default Excited and terrified at the same time

So thankful to have this forum to turn to. Excellent source of knowledge and experience. Thank you to all who have shared experiences and encouragement on this forum. It is definitely appreciated.
I am in my late 50's and have always struggled with yo-yo dieting. At my highest weight now, 170 and only 5'1. It will only get higher unless I stop it.
Haven't told anyone (divorced) about surgery. this surgery seems extreme but I am at the point where extreme seems necessary.

Welcome! I am also in my late 50's and needed extreme action! Had mine done JAN5 and no regrets. I have to say that it is a life changer, for the better. I think when you come to a decision as I have and the one that you're making, we are ready for a life change!
I retire next year and my goal is to leave and be very healthy!
    Best wishes!

Welcome Bibi! This is such an exciting time. It is hard in the beginning but gets easier and easier every day and it is definitely worth it!

Welcome Bibi! I'm in my late 50s too. I told my sister about the upcoming surgery (besides my husband and 2 daughters) and she asked "Isn't that a little extreme?" No it's not. It is very necessary!

The idea of having part of your stomach cut out can seem extreme from an outside point of view. But after years or research and 20 years of dieting, it was clear surgery was my only way to stay alive. Studies do show that diets don't work. So it might seem extreme for some people, but at the end it's our life, and our choice!
I'm one year out and have no regrets. It was not always a walk in the park, but so worth it! I wish you the best journey! Take care.

Thank you for the encouraging responses. Very supportive, honest, and sooo appreciated

I AM afraid to let friends and family know. They think it is just a matter of making better eating choices. That is true but obviously not working with my mindset

I don't know what is more "extreme", going on diet after diet and regaining weight + more, or making a conscious decision to force myself to face reality and make better choices for a new stomach. It seems as if most on this forum are grateful they chose surgery.
