    Default I'm new here.

Hi. My. My name is Jen and I had my sleeve Gastrectomy with hernia repair about 8 weeks ago. I think the hernia repair has. Even harder on my body than the sleeve gastrectomy.
So far the weight loss has been great. About 31 pounds. My problem is that I think the doctor may have tied my hernia to tight. I still can't do solids. For the past three weeks I have. Den drinking diet Gatorade for the electrolytes, mixed with 60 grams of protein powders meet my protein requirement. I'm hoping for some encouragement and ideas about how to get my energy leveling up due to lack of food. I have been taking the vitamins but still so tired, I can't get out of bed. I do some walking but exercise is out of the question. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your support. I look forward to learning with all of you.

Welcome Jen! Congrats on your success so far! You should definitely be able to eat foods by now. I don't think it is the hernia repair causing that. I suggest that you speak with your surgeon. I don't know how healthy it is to not be getting any foods.

I have a different view of all this.

    If you're still exhausted 8 weeks post-op, I don't think that's normal.

Also, not eating solids 8 weeks post-op is definitely not normal.

Please see your surgeon and get him/her involved in helping unravel what's going on. Don't keep guessing. And do NOT get into a lifestyle of "staying in bed."

    Very best to you!

P.S. Also -- are you getting any carbs at all? If not, that will keep you completely exhausted!

You are naturally tired and weak. Your body is starving and malnourished. Get to your doctor and get an answer because you need to eat. Your body is going to continually reject food the longer you go without. Start slow and build up. Try half a scrambled egg or sugar-free puddings, etc.

If you are unhappy with the Gatorade, try the PowerAde Zero. No sugar, no calories, less sodium, better electrolytes.

Lack of substance and nutrients will definitely make you weak not to mention cause havoc in your whole system. And you weren't on the extreme of obesity to begin with.

How are you are able to tolerate Gatorade and protein mixed in is beyond me! Just the thought makes me want to gag!

Have you tried making your own protein shakes? Try something easy like 1 banana, 2 Tbp real peanut butter, 1 cup yogurt, 1 egg, 1 cup milk and 1 tablespoon of honey. Use a blender and blend well with a few ice cubes.

Also make chicken and vegetables soup. Boil a whole chicken (including skin and bones) with half onion, garlic, celery and salt to taste until chicken is falling apart, makes sure you keep adding water but not too much. Remove chicken and all other ingredients, debone chicken. Put chicken broth through a strainer to clear and put in clean pot to simmer with cleaned and cut up vegetables like carrots, zucchini, cabbage and sweet potatoes until those are soft. Add deboned chicken. Try smashing chicken and vegetables with a fork to eat, or you may want to put in blender for a few seconds.

And as others mentioned call your surgeon ASAP.

I could go and see your surgeon and nutritionist. It does not seem right that you can't eat anything. Hope everything is ok!

Thanks for the advice about the carbs. I ate a banan today and it took awhile to finish it but I think it helped with my blood sugar.

I agree with seeing your doctor as soon as you can.I know everyone has a different journey but it seems that in 8 weeks you should be eating and moving around, not in bed.
Keep us posted and let us know what your doctor said!
