Default I tested what makes me full now

So, I was dying to know what it took to make me feel my new Full. My wife made some mac n cheese for our kids, and I jumped at the chance to perform a little test. I have (what I believe to be) a size 40 sleeve, and I made sure to chew each bite until it was puree in my mouth before swallowing. I took 5 heaping fork fulls of mac n cheese before I got what I know call Full which is kind of a tight lower chest feeling and kind of a sharp gas pain feeling in my stomach. Only 5....very interesting!

I know mac and cheese is tempting, but it is important that you stay away from white flour products during your recovery. They will feel you up fast and it has little nutritional value compared to say lentils or mashed beans (I loved black beans with crumbled feta or farmers cheese!)

I might be over reaching, but I think I have read in the forums that it does slow initial weight loss.

Go for protein rich and vitamin dense options.

Later when you are able to tolerate cooked veggies try cauliflower with melted sharp cheddar cheese and even later down the road, broccoli and cheese!

I can only offer from personal experience, and often wish I didn't rush my food stages. I truly miss those days when a few bites got me full.

I was told to always eat protein first then veggies. I have only had a few bites of carbs in the 9.5 weeks since surgery. It has always been a very small taste. I have learned what I'm eating is very important because I can only eat a little bit. And I want to provide my body the best nutrition possible.

I agree. Protein first, then cooked veggies.

I did with the specific and one time purpose of testing the size of my stomach. i don't think any good diet plan will include mac n cheese! :-)

I do long for the day when I can eat some chicken with cheddar..... drool.

Just know these suggestions come from a place of love, concern, and our desire for you to be successful. And I can only eat 2 bites and maybe a half and I'm 9.5 weeks. But I'm 4'11" so my sleeve is probably smaller.

Metroplexchl, I am day 73 post op now and for the last week and half or so i began eating chicken. Rotisserie with all skin and fat pulled off. I can eat about 2.5 oz of it. I reheat it on the stove in broth. It is yummy. I have not added any cheese to it, but I might try some parmesan. I try to eat aged cheese if I am going to eat cheese because it is lower carb. I am still so concerned about stalls so I try to eat as low carb as my body can stand and those around my mood can stand

There is veteran sleever here named Tinman and he would tell you eat whatever you like just don't over eat it. My therapist and I are actually working on that, but I personally cannot tell you what I would do if you put a bowl of mac and cheese in front of me. Actually. It'd be gone in a second to tell you the truth. It's in my "crack" list of foods I need to abstain from.

Everything is a question of balance. Finding the right balance for our bodies and our mind. Some people can eat carbs with no issues, I can't eat too much. But not enough is not good either!
It's hard to be able to navigate between what you wish to eat and what you actually need to eat and what all the "pretend" specialists in nutrition write and tell (plus it's a new story every six months...). Takes some time to figure out a balance.
In the US/Mexico bariatric surgeons do advise to follow a very low carb diet post-sleeve. In Europe/Asia they don't. My nutritionist asked me to eat more carbs! I was under 50gr per day at the time and she said it was bad for my body! But I can't really eat pasta or rice (don't really digest it well) so it's tricky, especially when I'm out.
At the end if you compare the graphs of weight loss between US/Asia after baraitric surgery, in the US the weight loss is quicker, but there is also more regain at 18 months. The result at 2+years is almost the same.
I think it's not realistic (at least for me) to follow a very low carb diet my whole life. And if I did reduce carbs a lot those past 4 years, and even more those last 13 months, I do eat "good" carbs and have a treat in the week end with my family. And I don't feel guilty about it.
