I think you should listen to your doctor He knows what the best for you and get you safe.
I used to consider a lot about having a GSS and then the members here gave me advice. I'm really appreciate that.

From what I've seen during 3 years on WLS message boards, to receive WLS surgery in the US and have your insurance company involved you will surely need your PCP's recommendation to a WLS surgeon.

Or ... you can go to Mexico where only the exchange of money is required to receive WLS.

My question would be: Why is your physician withholding his recommendation for WLS for you? Is it due to his general opinion / knowledge / experience / ignorance of WLS? Or does it have to do with your particular situation and his assessment of it?

If he doesn't support it because of your medical history, I would listen to him. And maybe figure out what's worrying him and try to fix it. But if it's his personal opinion about WLS, then maybe you can find a pcp that supports that.

What were his reasons? Health issues? You aren't that heavy? He doesn't believe in weight loss surgery? I would say it depends on your doctors reasons.

I have Medical Mutual here. I was required to have written recommendation from my PCP in order to start the necessary insurance approval process. There were definitely a lot of hoops to jump through but the results have been more than worth the work. Best of luck to you.

I got my surgery through my Aetna insurance. I went to a surgeon and did my full 6 month program through his office. I did not need anything from my PCP. I actually did not even discuss it with my PCP until I went to him for a follow up on my blood pressure medications. He was shocked at my 30 lb weight loss from my previous visit. It was at this point I told him I had the surgery. He was very pleased with my results and said I looked wonderful. He also asked me a lot of questions about my recovery and how I liked my experience. Then he asked which doctor I used so he could have one to refer any patients to who may be interested. How long have you had a weight problem? Is this a new issue? Just curious why he would not be supportive if he is for weight loss surgery. Good luck.
