I'm glad the doctor/nurses were able to help. That first month is hard on many of us but you will get better for sure!
Stress is the enemy post-sleeve, even more now than before the surgery!
Try to eat slowly with a calm environment, and measure everything you eat to make sure you don't eat too much. Bites the size of a peanut!
I did have a hard time around month 5, lots of stress and my stomach was really unhappy as well. It is complicated sometimes to reduce stress because it's coming from the outside, but protect your sleeve is your priority right now....try your best!
Best wishes for a fast recovery!
    Take care!

Please please stay on top of this and don't be ashamed or take it lightly. It is a huge deal. I have told my story like a broken record, but I really don't want it to happen to anyone else. I also was vomiting. Went to the hospital several times. Had multiple tests. They never could find anything specifically wrong. I ended up in the ICU with sepsis. I spent the first year after surgery in and out of the hospital. It was pre awful. Even worse, my daughter had surgery exactly a year after me. She wasn't so lucky as me. Her vomiting (they also could not find a cause) led to severe bleeding of her brain. She was diagnosed with multiple strokes, PRES, and Wernickes-Korsakoff (due to malnutrition/lack of vitamin B1). She is now permanently disabled all because the hospital did not take her vomiting seriously and let her brain suffer. It is serious. Those vitamins are so very very important and lack of them from vomiting can kill you quickly.

There's my over the top scare, only it's my real life story. Don't let it happen to you. Stay on those doctor's asses and demand vitamin/mineral replacement. They didn't listen to me, but maybe they will you. Best of luck to you.

Wow. That did scare me a little. Today when I took my calcium citrate it caused me to throw up again. It was pretty bad. I will call the doctor tomorrow if the vomiting persists. It was just hard for me to tell because all of the pain meds they pumped me with I thought maybe that's what caused it today.

Haha. That actually made me giggle! After reading Katarina's story I'm more worried about you, though. So please keep on top of this. And since we get in so little nutrients are vital. That's why we take so many vitamins and supplements. Let us know if you are able to keep anything down.

Thanks can honestly say I wasn't taking all the vitamins in a timely fashion. Today I did vomit pretty bad right after I took my morning m demand vitamins. I did not think th t mixed well. Since then I had zero issues. And I even had salmon salad and a vanilla protein. I'm using ginger root in my tea to fight the nausea. My greatest challenge now is constant salivating.

Hey Christie13. Unfortunately while I can keep food down, i've begun vomiting again. My job provide physicians on call 24 hours. The one I spoke with suggested not taking meds/vitamins on empty stomach. I believe that was the culprit for this morning's episode. However about an hour ago I polished off my last bit of protein shake and what happened 15 mins later you guessed it. I'm going to call tomorrow to request an Upper GI or endoscopy to look for an ulcer or a sricture. This is absolutely unbelievable. I was feeling great yesterday and even today. I'm tired of going to doctors and specialists. I know I'm wrong here and stating to feel paranoid but I'm wondering if there was an error during my surgery. Anyway I'm venting and I hope this can be resolved.

You have every right to vent. What you're going through isn't easy. It downright sucks. And to make matters worse there's no definitive answer or solution. I can't take my vitamins in an empty stomach or I'll get sick. My multi vitamin often gives me problems. But multi vitamins have never set well with me. I think I'm going to try a gummy one. I've also heard Flinstone kids chewables work as well. The ones I'm taking have made me throw up a few times. So I'll probably look this weekend. Also, if you have a lot of stomach acid that could also be the culprit making you sick. Which could be an ulcer or a hernia or just a side affect of the surgery. Fingers crossed the endoscopy yields some much needed answers.

I just called their bariatric coordinator and very nicely and humbly demanded a upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. This seems to be the most thorough tool to determine if there are issues. I'm tired of the trips to the ER and this is not ordinary nausea.

Your physician is right: after the sleeve I couldn't take my vitamins on an empty stomach or I would have the worth nausea.
That first month my face was just green all the time: my husband and friend were really worried. I must say that I was not, after the first three days vomiting all day post-op, it felt "great" to have just nausea. I mean I was still feeling awful but the worth was behind.

For the vitamins I switched brands may be ten times. I did take the Flinstone (purple bottle) that Christine talked about. It was the only one I could handle for months. BUT I had to take a mega dose of iron (80mg) and that was an other story. Gave me everything, cramps, diarrhea etc...
Right now I can only tolerate a brand of iron made of curry leaves....so far no side effects.
I changed my protein powder brand may be ten times or more. Was ok for a few days/weeks then just the smell of it would make me sick and I had to change again.
Usually it took me two hours the first month to be able to drink one shake. If I was drinking too fast I was feeling sick again.
I do take probiotics most days but for may be five months I couldn't take my omegas any more.

That first month was difficult. But it did get better. May be it will be the same for you and you will get better in ten days or so? One month is basically the time for the stomach to completely heal from what my surgeon said. That why I was cleared for any kind of food after that. Of course all doctors have different guidelines but that one month notion does appear on many publications. That's when side effects could show up but for many of us it's also the worth time post-sleeve.

Could you ask you surgeon what bougie size was used? That could be a start to understand what is going on. Because the smaller the bougie the higher risk of complications apparently. Sometimes in cases of strictures they advise for corticoids to calm down the inflamation. There is many options available to help you and you are doing the right thing asking for more exams because you have to know what is going on to get the best care possible.
    Good luck and take care.

Thanks, spoke with nurse today. Too early for endoscopy so they said if I'm not feeling better by monday they will order the upper GI contrast. So far I threw up once and then smooth sailing although there were a few close calls. I can't do protein shakes at all they are disgusting. So I'm trying salmon, chicken and yogurt.

Well, you are not yet three weeks post-op so you should be having only soft food right now. I couldn't actually tolerate soft food until past three weeks.
Try to only have a really smooth consistency like pureed food. Chicken is a dense protein really hard to digest at first. And salmon is good fat but still fat and I know I couldn't have salmon so early. I went with white flaky fish...
You can make your own protein shake with unflavored protein (I use vegan but if you can tolerate whey there's good organic whey). So that way you control what's inside, no fake sugar or funky artificial taste. It was impossible for me to reach 60 gr protein per day without shakes.
