    Default Best Protein Powder/Shakes

I am 4 days from going on the pre-op diet, and was wondering what you found the best protein powder/ and or shakes were. I am trying to factor in cost, nutrition, and taste. I've never even bought a protein shake, so I feel a little lost here, and was wondering what some of your experiences were like?

    Hi,

I am 9 days out of surgery and the protein shake that has worked best for me is the Premier Protein from walmart. You can buy them in little 4 packs to try first if you'd like. The strawberries and cream and bananas and cream are good, and another person just told me that the chocolate is good. The Premier Protein didnt leave a bad after taste in my mouth and it was easy to go down. Hope this helps and good luck.

Yes, the Premier Protein was very good (I tried chocolate.) I tried Pure Protein the day before and couldn't drink it all.... airy, foamy and watery, and the taste was unpleasant. I do want to try a couple other brands to mix it up though, and have gotten good information from other people on here on brands and flavors.

I like the Premier Protein. I tried Pure Protein and thought it was disgusting. I have purchase cases of 18 for Jet.com for way less and free shipping, plus an additional 15% off first 3 orders. I had 2 days after ordering. The more you order the less you pay, also if you use a debit card instead of credit card you pay less.

I tried the Unjury protein unflavored (it was ok a little foamy) and I can not stand the taste of protein and the flavored are too sweet and not very tasty, therefore I went with the unflavored then I can add to my on shakes, drinks, soups etc. After a lot of research today I ordered the name brand "Piping Rock" Whey Protein Isolate and paid 23 2.2 pounds plus a 5.25 shipping charge.... it had more than 100 excellent reviews - I am also newbie and struggling to find answers to all my questions. I did read that Bariatric Foodie website and it has a lot of good information and recipes, and so far it has been a good resource.

Thanks guys, I got the Premier Protein shakes, and this is my first day having them, and shockingly, they are not that bad.

I've been drinking one every morning (chocolate) and it's not bad. I have to run out tomorrow and pick up more because I'm now out. I had bought the 4 pack to try, and I like it.

We use the Premier Protein for snacks and such. But we get them in little cartons like milk. Are the "pre-Mixed " ones good to use post op??? I'm hoping to get surgery in March.

Yes, the pre-mixed premier cartons are perfect for post op. Although, it might take you all day to drink one.

I am drinking the chocolate right now for a late breakfast. I picked up the 4 pack of bananas and cream and it was OK, but I find the chocolate is what i like.

3 things I look for in protein powder are

    1. doesn't upset my stomach. ( I've found that my stomach tolerates whey isolate much better than regular whey)

    2. doesn't have much crap in them. this ones my problem with premier (protein has 4 calories per grams. so I like almost all the calories to come from protein. Unless your also using the shakes to help get fat or carb count up.)

    3 tastes good.

For me the one that has fit those best is Allmax Isoflex. Great taste and great macros.
Chocolate which is pretty tasty is 27 grams of protein 0 fat and 1 gram of carbs with 0 sugar 110 calories.

I go with the chocolate peanut butter. it adds 10 calories and .5 extra gram of fat and 1 carb due to having peanut flour in it but to me its worth is because it tastes like drinking a reeses peanut butter cup.

I personally like the EAS Advant Edge. They only have 15 grams of protein and 100 calories. They are the only ones that don't make me feel queasy. They are pretty good but I only like the chocolate flavors.

I make my own from unsweetened vanilla almond milk with either EAS Chocolate or Muscle Milk Vanilla. both have the best texture and great taste with the almond milk as a key ingredient. The pre-mades were too sweet and had chalky textures so I had to give up the convenience.

I am 2 weeks post op, struggling with flavor and after taste now. Another week of this and I can move to the next phase and I cannot wait!! Here is what I stocked up on pre surgery, it all wasn't bad tasting then bug now I'm so sick of the sweet, vitamin tastes- choc, van & caramel Premier shakes, Tropical & Watermelon Cytosport and bone broth (I can't tolerate at all!) I bought a clear why isolate to put in chicken broth, that got foamy and smelled gross. I am not allowed to make my own shakes due to the air that gets incorporated so I will plug thru my stock. I did grab a chocolate 25gm protein/5 gm fat muscle milk the other day and OMG that was amazing. Ready to buy the store but it's not on my acceptable list. Anyone use this brand? I'm going to try a few individuals, I need to change things up here.
