OMGosh! Please advise.
Have you started having hair loss? I had my surgery on 9/22/16, and I started taking 10,000 mcg of Biotin since May 2016 to get on top of the losing hair process. I am 3 months post op, and have not noticed to much hair loss. I wash my hair every other day, on the days that I do not wash my hair, I do not brush my hair, I just curl my hair and make it look pretty (I have long hair). I recently read about castor oil for hair. Supposedly it makes your hair grow faster and thicker. I am on week two, haven't noticed anything, but hopefully in the next few months :-) Also, a friend of mine who had the surgery says that head & shoulders shampoo has helped her hair regrow.
I will try anything!! I do not want to lose my hair. I am afraid of it!! Good luck. And if anyone has any helpful tips....please let us know!!! :-)
I am only just beginning the first steps of this journey and surgery is a few months off, but I have been taking 10000 mcg of Biotin for over a year due to medications I take for another ailment. My hair has thinned out (from the meds I am on) and wonder if it more could have fallen out- but hasn't- because of the Biotin use.

It's called telogen effluvian. Google it. Absolutely nothing you can do about it. Biotin, rogain-type products and getting in all your protein MAY help with regrowth, but nothing will stop the loss if it's gonna happen. On the other hand, it doesn't always happen. I didn't take any biotin or use special products and I never lost a single strand. Worrying about it won't help, mental stress can be just as much a culprit as the physical stress of surgery that causes the hairloss.
What Kindle said.
My hair loss started about 4 months post-op and continued through Month 9. Happily, I have lots of hair. I'm nearly 2.5 years post-op now and think I have more hair now than I ever did.
BTW, I didn't take biotin during the hair loss, but started about a year ago thinking it would help my skin be stronger (it's getting thinner as I grow older).
Bottom line -- WLS-related hair loss is temporary.

I know losing your hair can be detrimental to your self conscious, and it all depends on your genetics. Bottom line is that human hair is not essential for our human survival. It is the first organ to stop receiving nutrients when we strict our food intake, or have major trauma like surgery or other stressful event in our lives. So Kindle is absolutely right about worrying. It won't help, and you are adding unnecessary mentay stress.
Things you can do to accelerate regrowth is hydration, take your recommended vitamins, eat wholesome nutritious foods and exercise.
The worst thing you can do if you are losing your locks is hair dyes or highlights, trust you me! Do trim regularly.
I use the following for my own peace of mind, and results are individual, but I do feel it has helped regrowth tremendously! I use an essential oils scalp treatments and hair products from Just Natural Skin Care, I also use a two-step hair root spray and hair products from Philip Kingsley. It comes with vitamin supplements, but with all my vitamins it would be too much. I love the way my hair feels and looks even though it has thinned from the top. Some weeks I don't lose hair at all, but I think the worse is over. I wash my hair sparingly and use medium boar bristles brush.
Best wishes!

Coconut Oil
There is a fact that coconut oil can help to grow hair thanks to its ingredients. Coconut oil contains lauric acid and fatty acid helping to protect both the roots and strands of hair from breakage. That is the reason why people say that coconut oil functions as the shield for hair protein. Besides, this natural hair loss prevention can also help improve blood circulation and provide nutrients. Therefore, you should always include this oil into the list of home remedies for hair loss. Massage your scalp with a bit of warm coconut oil from your hair root to tip and wash it after an hour.
Applying a mask including coconut milk, avocado pulp, olive oil and a little honey to your scalp. Leave it in 30 minutes before washing it off.
Use the warm coconut milk to shampoo your hair.
Eggs are also used to treat the weak and damaged hair.
Science has proved that eggs contain a lot of protein, which makes up 70 percent of the hair. In addition, eggs also contain a variety of useful nutrients such as biotin, vitamin B that are favorable for hair. As a result, they become one of the best home remedies for hair loss.
The easiest way to use egg for growing hair is eating one egg daily.
Or you can make a mixture of egg white, yolk and 1 tbsp of olive oil. After washing, dry your hair with a towel, leaving the scalp moist. Apply the mixture to every section of the hair, concentrate on the roots if you have split ends. Wash it out of your hair with water.
Just found it on Authorityremedies. Hope it helps
I had surgery Oct 7th and thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones. No hair fall out. Then about 10 days ago... it happened. I feel my hair is worse than a semi annual dog shed. My shower drain was covered. I still take my 5K biotin (never helped my nails a bit in years) and am hoping for seeing some regrowth in a few months.
The video was good! Explained a lot.
