Default Low carb diet before surgery?

I know I can loose a good amount of weight by going on the very low carb diet. I have before but of course it comes back. I was wondering if I should do this pre surgery to try and loose some weight. What would the results be after surgery as far as weight loss. Since my food intake would be drastically reduced I would think I would still be loosing weight. On the other hand if I am no longer doing the very low carb diet would my weight loss stall?

The diet you are on after you have the surgery is still very low carb if you want to loose weight. Especially breads your new stomach will not do well with breads and you have to get your protein in so you don't have room for carbs if you are staying committed. I can tell a difference in my weekly weight when I give in to my cravings during the week.

I did low carb the last month before surgery. I just feel it is a much healthier choice for me than liquid diets or low-fat diets. The weight comes off steadily, I don't get the cravings and I get quite an energy boost. I lost 13 kg (29 lbs) during four weeksvof liwcarbing. A good resultat for me, and I didn't suffer like I would have on shakes.

I did low carb prior to surgery then the 2 week liquid pre op. I am now 5 months out of surgery and don't even crave carbs or sweets any longer. This has been so amazing for me. I am Italian and raised on big bowls of pasta. I loved garlic breads, cannolis etc. and I have not had any of this. I crave chicken, fish and veggies now. So low carb eating is the way for me. Everyone is different and you will have to find what works for you.

My nutritionist said I was to be on low carb diet prior to surgery and said it would have to be a permanent change for the foreseeable future. She said to eat meat first then veggies. Then very little fruit, preferably the lower carb ones. And occasionally bread products but rarely. So right now I don't do fruit or bread products. No rice, tortillas, chips, crackers, pasta etc. So far I don't miss it!

There's two schools. Basically in the US/Mexico, most of the time surgeons will tell you to go for low carb post-op, may be after one or two months. You should get written guidelines with what to eat and when from your surgeon, before you live the hospital.
Because I had surgery in Asia, here they don't follow the same guidelines. My nut and surgeon never told me to go low carb, for them it's important to still eat carbs. Plus they prefer that we have 60 gr of protein per day (US they say 100gr) because too much protein is bad for the kidneys. Doctors in France advise the same diet more or less. Since I'm in between countries I can compare the stats and weight loss is may be slower in France/Asia but there's less weight regain at 18 months, and at the end the results are almost the same.
    There's no perfect plan!
Because I know my body I do eat less carbs than what my surgeon team advise (plus in Asia rice is a staple) but I'm not "low carbs" either. I try to always have high quality food since we eat so little, but I don't want to "follow a diet" because that's what I will do permanently. So a treat once a week or for a special occasion is ok, but not everyday. Before surgery I was already eating most of the time balance/organic. I'm just more careful now when I travel because that's when it gets complicated, so I travel with food now!
The best advise is to eat what you like in it's better version. Keep it simple but just think health first.
