    Default Southwest seat size

We have talked about this before. Many had said they give a free seato, you just have to ask at check in. I messaged them on fb asking a few questions that being one of them. She said I could proactively purchase an extra seat, and it would be refunded after we fly. So nowe im confused.

I do this EVERY time I fly... So please trust me, I have no reason to lead you astray.

You DO NOT need to purchase an extra seat. Just go ask at the desk in the gate area and they will give you an extra at no cost with no hassle.

I will, I've heard it many times. Just nervous! I need to get a measure out and see what 17 inches are just to be prepared

I flew Southwest and purchased two seats prior to traveling. The extra seat was promptly refunded to me after my trip. I do realize you can ask at the gate, but if the flight is full, how can they give you an extra seat. So to guarantee the extra seat I opted to pay ahead

Just in case the flight is full, buy that extra seat and they will refund your money. If you don't get two seats ahead of time and the flight is full, you will be stuck (Literally!) in one tiny seat. Or just buy one seat and take your chances that the flight is not full. Then they will give you the extra seat for free.

I am amazed at how generous Southwest is for doing this. Love that airline!

You can go on their site and read under "persons of size" where they explain it all.

If I did purchase the 3rd seat...Do we board any faster? To ensure me, my husband and extra seat are one row.
How fast do they refund that cost back to me?

Unless they let you pre-board, you just need to check in on line EXACTLY 24 hours before your flight. So if your flight is at 3:26 you sit at your computer until it says 3:26 and hit the check in button. That way you will be toward the front of the line and able to choose where you want to sit. Southwest does not assign seats.

They would not let my 90 year old mother pre-board (unless she was in a wheelchair), so I'm not sure if they would let a large person pre-board.

If you ask for the extra seat at the gating area they give you a different boarding pass, and you preboard which is why I don't prepurchase the ticket.
