Default PB2 powder in the premier shakes

Hey Everyone! I am new to this site. I will be having my surgery in March and I've been reading about a lot of people having a really rough time with the 1st 3 days or so of the pre op diet. So I thought it would be a good idea to try and start preparing my body for it now by swapping a Premier Shake for breakfast. They are soo sweet! I got both chocolate and vanilla and I also bought some PB2 powder. Do you think it would taste any better by adding it into the shakes?
    Thanks for your time!

I liked premier prior to surgery (chocolate), but now I really don't like them. Pre op diet I had for 14 days and it was any and all sources of lean protein to include eggs and I drank premier because it only had 5 carbs and I was supposed to stay below 20g carb a day. Premier is also convenient the way it is packaged. After surgery my doctor had me drink skim milk for 2 weeks for the protein source. Fairlife skim milk has 13g of protein for 8oz. On week three I could add no sugar added carnation instant breakfast to the Milk and I have stuck with that. I think it tastes better. I have not tried the PB2. Just look at the carb content and use a little as you need to get the taste you are looking for. After surgery you will have an eating plan from your surgeon to follow. It has not been hard but takes a little planning to make sure you get in the 60g of protein a day especially in the early days. I am glad my doctor had me on the skim milk because I could get in 4 cups a day by day 3 and that mad eke confident. It took time, no guzzling with a sleeve but it is doable and I have not had hunger except the head hunger sometimes.

Each Premier Protein shake has 30 grams of protein. Our bodies can only process 25 to 30 grams of protein at one sitting. Anything beyond 30+ grams of protein at one meal goes to fat storage and will be taxing on the kidneys.

So if you add PB2 powder to each Premier Protein shake, your shake will exceed 30 grams of protein, which is pointless.

I would add the PB2 to a lower-protein food such as yogurt or milk. I personally add a serving of PB2 to a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt for a delicious treat.

I did the same thing as you. I started a pre-op two and half months ahead so the switch over was not so dramatic.

I switched from premier protein to making my own. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk with EAS chocolate whey protein powder and muscle milk whey protein powder and mix in the PB2 for different flavors. I you don't like the sweetness you my want to try this. I found it much more tolerable.

Thank you.. I will definitely look into that. Since you did the same as I am doing how was the transition into the pre op diet for you?

I found the pre-op to be much easier than I had expected. I fully think it had to do with working into it slowly ahead of schedule. I started with one meal replacement a day then two meals a few days a week and finally two meal replacements everyday which was about a month before surgery. I did not get any of the head aches or other problems some other experienced. I would recommend it for everyone. The one thing it did do was make me second guess the surgery because I was losing weight on my. But ultimately I knew I could never sustain that because I do like variety.

PS - I am a texture guy. I like the food I eat to have the right texture. And I found making my own shakes with those two proteins had great texture. Much better than the Premier Protein, for me. Some other protein powders did not mix well and had bad testure. that's why I mention the two that I use now. I am sure others can be as good but I really like those two for texture and flavor.

And the PB2- I found I can only use half the recommended amount because it is so powerful.

ALL protein supplements were too sweet and thick for me. With the premiers I diluted them 1/2 and 1/2 with milk and they were just right. Not to mention that turned them into 40g, 20oz shakes which is great Cause you need the protein and fluids anyways. But going along with what rehab nurse mentioned, I would take several hours to drink them, or split one between AM and PM so I was absorbing all of that protein.

As for the protein powders, when they say mix with 8 oz of water or milk, I mixed them with 16-24oz. Made them much less sweet and syrupy. Same with Greek yogurt, they were all too sweet, so I made my own with plain Greek yogurt flavored to my liking with pureed fruit or Torani syrups.
