    Default Hello fellow sleevers

    Well I'm not a sleever yet but a sleever-wannabe

Just saying hello. I've hated my weight my entire life, and I've considered lap band and gastric bypass since about 10 yrs ago, but it was just so cost prohibitive. Then I found out about the option of getting the surgery in Mexico being much more affordable and I really want to do this. I'm worried about being able to stick to the diet because I'm definitely an emotional eater, but I hope with hard work, support of my great fam, keeping a positive attitude and communicating with people in the similar situation, I will be able to do it!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend, wherever you are!

    Welcome!

You 100% need to get the mental side in check before you do this but, by even mentioning it shows you are well on the right path!

I always said "i wish I did it sooner" yet, the more I thought about it, I wasn't ready then. It took time for the old bean to agree with the new lifestyle.

    Best wishes on your journey!

Hi! I have a similar story, overweight all my life and nothing worked for long. My best friend got gastric bypass surgery almost 20 years ago, and I've been thinking about bariatric surgery for a long time. I was just too scared to go for a bypass, but with the innovation of the gastric sleeve, I finally feel ready to go for it. Im older (59) and I wish I could have had surgery years ago, but it wasn't financially feasible. Insurance won't cover it because I don't have any comorbidities (yet) and I couldn't afford to pay for it myself. In the last year, four people I know have gone to Drs. Almanza and Hernandez in Tijuana, and all of them have had wonderful outcomes. That gave me a considerable amount of confidence in doing the same thing. So, I'm tentatively planning on April 19 as my surgery date in Mexico! I'd go sooner but my hubby is making me pay cash so I have to keep saving. Having this website as a resource is awesome, and I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. Good luck and keep us posted. Cheers, Patti

Hi again, I also forgot to mention that I am a compulsive overeater, and have been most of my life. I've been attending a support group for over a year and a half and it has really helped me. I feel everyone with this problem find a support group for extra help with emotional eating. It's super helpful, and I know that even after the surgery I'll have to keep attending these meetings for the rest of my life to help me deal with my issues. At least after the surgery I'll begin to lose weight, which up until this point, hasn't happened no matter what I do. Thanks for letting me share, Patti.
